NO to Wal-Mart!
Yes, they provide good jobs; yes, they provide cheap merchandise (and contribute to making us think most of what they sell is even needed). Let's ask ourselves WHY the can offer everything so much cheaper (what wages did the hands making the merchandise receive) and thus put smaller shops out of business. Let's ask ourselves if we truly want or benefit from their new "organic" offerings grown on a super scale instead of locally. Let's ask ourselves if offering proccessed food in bulk saves us money or just makes us fatter.
Does their huge parking lot beautify the landscape and contribute to run-off and increased thermal effects on sunny summer days. Is Wal-Mart a place you can WALK to easily? Or must you have a car to get there?

Sadly you represent the opinion of many country folks. Although I can understand why you would feel this way i gotta disagree. I'm from the Twin Cities. And we moved up here and found that there are NO jobs. Wal-mart would cause all the small town businesses to either go out of business or to suffer. But these businesses over charge us anyways and very few of them hire more then 4 people. Even though Wal-Mart is a evil faceless corporation it will allow other franchise businesses to get into the spooner area. And the population will likely rise and the younger people from more just societies rather then people who have lived under the oppression of Spooner Pd and the inept Spooner school District Will be able to vote these jokes( Bobby Andrea, Jon Griffith, Robert Kinderman) outta office. And it will be sad to see the beautiful land scape we have around here..but to many conservatives un-liking, chance is inevitable.

yes so then people do not have to run all the way to the south side who lives on the north side to do their shopping when there could be one on the north side so then people will not have to waste gasoline because of the high prices so it would be good for everybody. so if people do not like it on the north side then they do not have to go to walmart agian it would not be a loss there are many other people would go to make up for the north people

As a single parent just trying to make ends meet, I eagerly await Wal-Mart. If the local businesses that are in fear of going out of business wanted to ensure customer loyalty then maybe they should've been loyal to us. And not charge their "neighbors" as much as possible instead of fair prices. Wal-Mart is going to give a break to the lower income families, ultimitely benefiting our kids. So sorry Economart but charging almost $5.00 for a gallon of milk is going to bite you in the butt!
