Have you compared the organic Creamery milk against its competitors? It's like $1.50 less or more. No wonder they lost money hand over fist.

Actually the price depends where you buy Humboldt Creamery milk.. Safeway is the highest while Winco is the lowest. Winco price can't be beat.

HC milk was less because it was directly distributed. HC copacked Organic Valley which is shipped to Rocklin and distributed up here by UNFI. Transport cost and middle man makes that cost more. Straus is in a friggin glass bottle and is very expensive compared to every option.

A company that sells in Bankruptcy court for $20 million was already corporate organic, don't kid yourself on that one. The local suppliers of organic milk, even the ones who sell to Horizon, are far from corporate and most all have small herds by comparison to those in the valley or in CO.

If this deal pays back the creditors, especially the farmers who are owed for milk it is a good one. Foster Farms is a strong brand with a long history, they will need our milk and likely would not buy the facilities just for the distribution route.

Let me get this straight. Farmers, who are mostly repubicans, are hoping the FDA, a government agency, steps in to guarantee wholesale purchases of their raw milk. Wow, I guess socialism is o.k. if you're a repubican getting the handout butt not if you’re a liberal.

"Muddle of the road" tries to make even the bankruptcy of Humbolt Creamery a partisan issue ?

I'd say its partisan to the extent that conservatives are usually greedy in terms of taking every selfish economic advantage they can, without limit.

And stupid conservatives, like the HC producers are, combine greed with lack of business saavy.

Liberals are wary when they're told some deal will "put you in the catbird seat". They don't feel its right to try to take all the money on the table, so their greed is restrained. And when someone tells them they can "corner the market" they figure its a scam somehow, even if they can't figure it out.

No one is forcing you to read the so called BS, Cedric. Like I have said many times, what will be will be and I think Foster Farms will be good for Humbolt County. Stop worrying.

I am a farmer and a rancher and I am a democrat... The problem with folks like you, middle-o-the-road, is the ignorant stereotyping of groups of people that you obviously do not have a dealing with on a day-to-day basis. Statements that put one general group of people, of one particular business into one box are asinine. Everyone has to eat right, who cares what political leaning, gender, race, religion, etc. that person creating your food has. The only thing that matters is that farmer a good farmer; that they do their business in a correct way so that I can rest assured that my food is coming from a safe reliable source. If they are not doing their job correctly, than, in theory, we have government in the form of the USDA to make sure that they are not allowed to be farmers any more. There is already a wide disconnect between the 1% of our society who make the food we eat, and the 99% who eat that food. Children cannot answer basic food related questions such as where do eggs come from. Most will answer "the store." There is a general stereotype (now taken on full force by large agribusiness) that small organic family farms are good, and wholesome, and democrat, and that large, scary corporate farmers are evil republicans. In reality, the demographics are as wide as anywhere (for more on the subject read Wendell Berry). At any time in our nation’s history, we need to come together and dissolve stereotypes and prejudices. The last thing we need is to do as you have done, and already written those in our community who are in a particular line of work off and stuck them in one big box.

Woody Boy I think the ethics and honesty of the people I do business with matters a lot. People's character matter. If someone supports things that I think are wrong or is a nasty person, I won't support them by doing business with them, if I have a choice. And if I don't have a choice now I'll try to develop an alternative to dealing with them.

Its not a principle that's unAmerican. As an example, it's what our nation is doing in not having diplomatic or economic relations with countries that we feel have policies we can't tolerate.

In this situation the HC producers have demonstrated, in many ways, that they haven't earned and don't deserve my trust and loyalty. In fact, their stupidity, arrogance, and greed has caused many people great harm. Not one of them has apologized for the anxiety and losses they brought. And they aren't very good at keeping dairy cows either.

Woody Boy, don't take TOC seriously. Nobody does. He just sits behind his little computer ALL DAY LONG and comments on various subjects, just to stir up shit. He doesn't care if he believes it or not, he just writes stuff he thinks will get a rise out people.

I am for a Chinese company buying it out, stripping out everything that can be sold, then dumping the remains rights here owing a huge utility and tax bill. That would be the true American way.

Great rebuttal anonymous. You just proved my point by calling for others to ignore my comments.

Like I say, don't do business with business with people who you don't like. And thats exactly how most in HumCo feel about the crooked people behind Humboldt Creamery.
