Janie at the Dance Connection is very unprofessional. I had my 3 year old daughter in her class for 2 mos. She seemed personable with the girls at first, then one class, my daughter was trying to ask her a question, and was saying,“teacher, teacher, teacher,” a normal thing for a 3 year old toddler, and Janie told her sternly to that it wasn’t time to talk right now, it was time to dance. That wasn’t what I had a problem with, though. I’ll get to that in a minute. Well, since my daughter’s feelings were hurt, she didn’t participate in the last 15 min. of class. She quietly stood in line, so I opened the door to talk to her, she came to the door, and Janie came up to me and told me what had occurred. I sent my daughter back into class, to see if she would dance. She didn’t. After class, all the girls and parents in the class gathered around the desk to get stickers. This was new, since my daughter was sick the previous class and didn’t get a sticker book, when they were handed out. My daughter asked Janie for a sticker, and Janie said,“Only good dancers get stickers, and you weren’t a good dancer today because you didn’t participate, so you don’t get a sticker.” She said that to my 3 year old, who loves to dance, and in front of all the other little girls and their parents. What she told my daughter was what I had a problem with. I waited until everyone left and my husband was in the car with my daughter and I went to talk to Janie. I told her that what she told my daughter was wrong and it offended me. She told me that she’s been doing this 20 something years, and this is how she teaches. I told her that my daughter participated in class, up until the last 15 min. of a 45 min. class. That she didn’t stop participating in the class, until you hurt her feelings. We went back and forth on this, and I was so angry I was close to tears. Finally, after saying that how she treated my child offended me a few times, she gave me an half hearted apology. I left, and decided not to take my child back to class, even though I had paid for the whole month and had one class left. Today I received a letter from Dance Connection telling me that they haven’t received payment for the month of Nov. It had been 1 month since I stopped taking my daughter there, and they had the audacity to ask for payment! I called the studio immediately, and Janie answered the phone. I gave her my name and told her that I received the letter asking for payment, and I didn’t know why I was sent that, since I hadn’t sent my daughter back to her class since she yelled at her a month ago. She immediately got an attitude with me and told me that that she wanted to clarify that she never yelled at my daughter (that was a lie) and that she apologized for her secretary for sending me the request for payment letter, all the while with an attitude, I actually said that I didn’t want to get into this and hung up while she was giving my attitude on the phone. If you want your 3 year old child to be told that they aren’t good dancers, send them there…because that’s what you will get, that, and attitudes when you confront them about talking like that to a 3 year old. I hope you are proud of how you handled the whole situation, Janie. A simple sorry, would have sufficed, but I didn’t get that until I made it clear several times that I was offended. But my talk with you on the phone, just lit the fire under me to warn other parents out there that you don’t deserve their business.

I'm sorry Janie did that, but it's still good to go to the Dance Connection. Also, if you didn't tell them that your daughter's quitting, then you're probably going to get the bill 'cause she's still signed up. There are other teachers there, you know. Right now I'm taking Tap, Jazz, and Ballet with Elizabeth and she's a wonderful instructor. If you don't believe me, buy tickets for the winter recital and see for yourself. Dance Connection's a great place and everyone there enjoys it. If you haven't noticed, the competitive dance tea has been winning quite a few times in competitions. Once again, I'm sorry for what Janie did to your kid. But overall, The Dance Connection is a great place to go if you want good instructorrs and if you want to have alot of fun.

I have been a spectator of far too many dance Recitals hosted by Dance Connection.I am shocked and appalled parents actually pay for dance services at this facility! The props at this years Christmas recital dated 12/12/09 look exactly like last years as do all the performances! What the heck does the owner do with all the fees paid by these mother's who need their child to participate at a dance school where the instructors are either overweight or barely of age to vote! If youre looking for a Dance school where your husband won't eyeball the dance instructors this school is for you! I can't wait until I no longer have to attend these recitals and support my Best Friend's child!(And yes, for those of you who are wondering my best friend is insecure)Ladies...just because your insecure is no reason for your child to suffer at a school that truly sucks....To the woman who posted about the 3 year old child and her instructor Janie...you should have taken all of Janie's stickers since I'm sure she isn't a good dancer for the day as well. I've actually witnessed an instructor sit on her fat butt and teach class!!!!!! Her name starts with an A...and ends with an A if youre familiar with this facility then you know which instructor I'm talking about.

I went to the winter recital and I wasn't impressed at all. the girls and a few boys have the basic's down but they were not in step with one another or with the music. They charge way to much for tickets and as I said I wasn't impressed at all we did better musicals in high school with no so called professional instruction.

i have been going to the Dance Connection for over 10 years and I love it there. Obviously the woman who had written that review doesn't know what she's talking about. Janie is one of the kindest people I've ever met in my entire life and would never ever yell at a 3 year old. Some people like the person who wrote that review are just ignorant. I suggest dancing at the Dance Connection to everyone. They're aren't very strict and their classes are so much fun.

OMG! Thanks for taking the time to write. I'm new to the world of dance and have been debating over using dance connection or another school here in Stockton. I have a 4 yr child with low self esteem issues. Besides therapy I was going to use dance as a tool to help build her self esteem. I know that every story has two sides, in my cases the only side is the side of the child. I believe in the power of the pen and thanks for sharing. BTW I will be checking into the other school.

I would never send my chid after reading this. Thank you, I too had a similar incident at Dance connection, I do not care for their lack of professionalism and sensitivity.

Just because someone's overweight doesn't mean they can't dance. You're the one sitting around, and not teaching and helping kids. Also, some people are born that way. How do we know you're not overweight? Exactly. So don't judge people just because of their weight or the way they look. Didn't they teach you that in Kindergarten? It's not right to judge people like that. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE DANCE CONNECTION. The people there are great and so are the instructors. You don't need to pay that much either. So before saying you don't want to go to The Dance Connection, try out there.

I danced at Dance connections most of my life. I grew up there. The woman who said Janie yelled at her child probably wasn't even in there to hear it. Yes, she might of said sternly, but she would never yell at a child. I would suggest Dance Connection to anyone who is wondering because they are so great at teaching and its so much fun. If they don't want Janie as a teacher, there are others there too. Not just her. Also, if the woman with the 3 yr old just told DC that she is quitting FOR her daughter then they wouldn't of had the payment. But think about it, she quit dancing for her daughter, what kind of mother would do that?
Of course she thinks that Janie yelled at her, and possibly gotten an attitude, but doesn't every mother or father have one of those days? Mother of the 3 yr old probably had an attitude and Janie probably just stood up for herself.
I grew up in that studio, so if anyone tells me that, that studio is terrible for kids, you are dead wrong. You got to be there to believe it. None of you understand.

I took my daughter to the Dance Connection and they are very unprofessional. Over the phone I was told my daughter could start Tap, Jazz, and Ballet even though they were in the middle of learning a routine. We were about ready to go into the class and the teacher came and talked to me in front of my daughter and said to be honest we had a girl try last week and she failed and now she is in the Jazz class. The teacher said that all the girls have been dancing since they were 2 together and they are really advanced and she didn't think it would work. Come on were talking about 5,6, and 7 year old girls and were not talking about competitive dance. The teacher scared my daughter and psyched her out and made her burst into tears before she even got a change to try. I forgot to add that she had tried the beginner tap class last week and was way to advanced so that teacher told me that she belonged in the advanced class. The teacher had two other helpers in the class and only two student were there so it wasn't like there wasn't someone there to take her by the hand and make her feel welcome. The teacher didn't even speak or make any attempt to warm up to my daughter or invite her into her class to the class to try. I was a horrible experience and I do not advise anyone to bring there children there. Who would want to try a class after a teacher says that. And to top it off when the class begin it was totally easy basic steps that my daughter could have followed very easily. They should not tell people to come into to try if they are not even going to try the class. They should not have teachers or secretaries that don't know how to warm up to children and make they feel welcome and they them they are going to fail before they even try and the grumpy Secretary just shook her head and agreed. No wonder the other girl who tried last week went into the Jazz class. They are obviously unprofessional and unorganized otherwise the beginning class teacher should have told her she was sending in a student for the advanced tap class that the beginning class was way to easy for her. My friend also had a bad experience the week before with the secretary being rude to her. Do not send your daughter there. It is a dump.

I've been at The Dance Connection for 11 and a 1/2 years, and I've absolutely LOVED it. The dances are so fun to watch, and we just had our Summer recitals. They were all very wonderful, and amazing. There are very nice instructors, helps, and dancers. We are all one big family. I would never leave, and I'm going to be there for a very long time. Those people who wrote rude comments obviously haven't had experience there. Everyone should try out there, 'cause if they do, they'd never leave.

I absolutely love Dance Connection! I love my dance teacher, Ms. Lindsey. They are all so nice and if yiu say they are bad, you are fools!! i have been goin there ever since 2nd grade and i <3 it. It's a lot better than Stockton School of Performing Arts. They were horrible. when I first started, I was 5 yrs. old.I did one recital then proceeded my dance classes again for the summer recitals. I was about 6 when i got switched into a different age group of about 5th-7th graders. I WAS THE BEST IN MY CLASS. MY TEACHER EVEN HAD ME DO THE DANCE IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY ELSE. I WAS 6!! every one else was twice my age. That proves that the teachers there aren't as great as the think they are.

If you don't love the Dance Connection, then there is something terribly wrong with you. I have been dancing here since I was 2 years old and now I am almost 13. I have been dancing there all my life and I love it. If you don't like Dance Connection then honestly, you have a problem that should be checked by a doctor. We are all a family, and we all love it there. At Dance Connection the intstructors actually care about you want you to succeed. They don't just care about you during your donce class, they care about you outside of dance as well. That is another reason why Dance Connection is honestly the best. Thats something that you will not find in most studios. I would recomend Dance Connection 110% for anybody looking for a fantastic place to dance.

What is your problem lady? Yeeah I know who you are talking about and just so you know, she has choreographed some of the best dances at dance connection. You are absolutley clueless, open your mind. Don't discriminate. You have no idea.

Dance Xtremes tickets are 15$ and Stockton Ballets tickets are 11$ and Dance Connections are only 10$. They were off with the music? They were probabaly like 4. Dance Connection is about having fun and trying to become a better dancer.
