Full story: Inside Bay Area

Officials ceremoniously launched construction last week of a massive state prison project southeast of Stockton that will pump millions of dollars into the local economy for years to come.

CA is broke but they can build a new prison. That state is making it a business of locking up as many as they can to create jobs and boost local economy. It doesn't matter that we are known througout the world as the lock up country. We have less people than China and yet many many times as many in prison. There is something wrong with the thinking of the people of this country. We need to fix the reasons for so many in prison, not continue to spend billions to put them there. Between prisons, welfare and our politicians ripping up off with voting their own pay and double dipping benefits--we soon won't be able to support that kind of system. Then what???

I have no problem with this type of expenditure. If this facility is for holding violent felons for an exteneded period of time, then it is a good thing. The crime rate in Los Angeles has gone down over the last few years in a poor economy. One of the reasons is that career criminals are off the street, and they are not producing children. Isolating crime-prone young men from society works.

You have excellent idea, instead of making jail and put a hug amount of investment on non-productive activities, we should use the same sources on human welfare.

How crime creates, why people doing crime, what is the force that people have to start crime and starts thinking like evel?
The Answer is only that a human become hungry and he can not find any food then he try to start crime. If we create job opertutinity to every one and everyone have food, house, car, facilities then there will be no crime no jail.

Is this prison for illegal immigrants? Good! Is this prison for innocent boys and men convicted or rape? Bad!
