(CBS News) Sarah Brady is one of few people who got Congress to act on gun control. She helped win passage of the Brady Law, which requires gun owners to have background checks.

Wonder if those kids who shot up the schools got their back ground checked out?

Well Ginger thanks for the post, unfortunately your theory is just not going to work here. The Govt. Has spent a bazillion dollars trying to get drugs off the "street" and you see how well that has worked. Same would hold true for guns. So we should focus on people, responsibilities, parenting, and raising children so they have hope and love. The point is, gun control has a horrible record of preventing school shootings, so lets look inward to solve this problem.

Taking away our Second Amendment right to bear arms will do nothing to stop the killing of innocent people. Guns do not kill people, people kill people. Gun control will do nothing but leave us without the ability to defend ourselves against those intent on harming us. Criminals will always find a way to accomplish their goals whether it is selling/using drugs or buying fire arms to kill. I agree with Real, guns are not the problem, this is a social and moral problem.

If guns are taken away then only criminals and cops will have guns. Very bad idea!

Almost every household has a big, sharp knife in the kitchen to cut watermelon, meat, whatever. The fact that the knife is lying in the drawer does not make the people in the house grab it and start stabbing people. Some murderers do use the kitchen knife (which is really gruesome and horrible) but that does not mean we should ban carving knives!

We have to take something away from the people to appease the small miniorty who do not want any kind of guns, so how about taking all guns way ,say for five years and see how that works?

People could turn in their guns to the cops and in five years if this did not work out, they could take back their guns.

If the people do not trust the cops, then the local priest/preacher could hold the guns in escrow.

Maybe we could just ban everything that is sharp, moves, explodes, and/or presents a danger to anybody including those little yapping ankle biting lap dogs.

I am sure walmart and their partner RED CHINA would continue to feed and cloth us.

No, Ginger, taking away our guns will not solve the problem. Giving them to the government, police, or clergy will not stop the senseless taking of lives. If someone is hell bent on killing, they will find a gun or other weapon somewhere to accomplish their goal. No gun control trial period is needed... it will not work. Does the phrase "Fast & Furious" ring a bell?

Ginger, thanks again for your input! The problem is that there is NO way to get ALL the guns turned in, therefore the honest folks would turn in theirs, but the crazies would still have them. But I am really glad you are providing suggestions, not just rhetoric.

Ginger, what about the people who have high dollar collections of guns. Should they give away their investment? No. It's the criminal not the weapon.

Why do "WE" "HAVE" to take anything away??? Why do law abiding citizens "HAVE" to appease the small minority??? WE've appeased the small minority long enough. The "small" minority includes gun control freaks, homosexuals, and muslims... I say the "small" minority has taken their fair share away from the rest of us long enough. NO GUN CONTROL!!!!

Very good point! I agree completely. Maybe the minority should get a gun and take care of themselves!

Standard Right Wing Propaganda: Guns And Religion Don’t Kill People, Abortions Do!

Here’s the thing about conservative arguments: If they can’t fit on a bumper sticker, it’s too long for their intended audience and they run the risk of a disastrous second glance. Take the above bit of empty headed propaganda as an example: it seems quite witty until you take a fraction of a second to think about it.

What’s the difference between an abortion and a gun and religion? Well let’s see…an abortion is a personal decision that only directly affects the woman making it. A gun, specifically the kind rational people want banned, is a personal possession that exists for the express purpose of killing other people and religion, specifically the kind people object to, is used to push arbitrary morals on to other people.

A communications professor from Florida Atlantic University isn’t backing down from his theory that the mass killing of 20 children in Newtown, Connecticut may have never happened.

Professor James Tracy asserted that it was “not unreasonable to suggest the Obama administration [had] complicity or direct oversight of an incident that has in very short order sparked a national debate” on gun control.

“While it sounds like an outrageous claim, one is left to inquire whether the Sandy Hook shooting ever took place—at least in the way law enforcement authorities and the nation’s news media have described,” he declared, noting that no surveillance video of photos of bodies had been released by authorities.

Of course he didn't have a background check, but then I'm fairly certain you know that and are only being sarcastic. at any rate as with many cases or what would ultimately happen if you forced every law-biding citizen to given up their 2nd amendment rights, the guns were stolen. Criminals can and will do what they wish. why should myself or anyone else who follows the law be forced into a position where we can't prtect ourselves and family?

"an abortion is a personal decision that only directly affects the woman making it"
Really?, ummm, what about the child that was killed?

Total left wing nut propaganda, but it does leave a person scratching his head in amazement because the left hangs their whole argument on the hinges of "as long as there was a choice involved, killing children is ok". Killing children through abortion clinics is an acceptable loss for left wingers, but they really get wadded up if mom didn't get to choose for little Jr. I wonder how many left wingers would still like abortions if the clinic used a gun to destroy the "fetus"? I mean, mom still made the choice, right?

Geez, back on point, more suggestions for stopping gun violence?

Standard Left Wing Socialist Propaganda: Take the guns away and the world will be utopia.

Here’s the thing about your socialist argument: If it isn't over 15,000 pages long and included hidden agendas, than someone might actually figure out what they're up too decide not reelect them. That's the problem with liberals, they ONLY take a fraction of a second to think about something before reacting... which causes disastrous consequences. You call abortion a "choice", God calls it murder. An abortion effects more than just the woman receiving it... it effects the unborn child. Liberals fight and argue over women's rights to destroy a child's life, but then want to ban guns to protect children. Seriously, if you'd take more than a fraction of a second to think about that, you'd see how rediculous your arguments are. The rational people you side with say they only want to take assult rifles, but seriously, do you think they will stop with only those? Is the assult rifle the only gun capable of killing an individual? How stupid do you liberal communists think the rest of us are???
