The plant is what they call a seasonal faculity. It only makes pies and cobblers that you mainly buy during the holiday seasons. Because of this they have cut the hours down to 32 a week for everyone except those that are on the production lines. This is what they do every year & I have not heard of any shutdown.

Why did they sell the tool crib to another company and why are they laying off employee's of 30 plus years with the company, at at their age now will probably not be able to find employment, what do they expect these employees to do now? or do they care?

No, they do not care. They only care about money.

No, it's not true. They just hired a new Plant Manager to start on March 8th...not much point in doing that if you're just going to close down at the end of March.

Amen. 30 year employees and what they do to get by between late middle age and retirement is not there problem. Making dough is. Their is no way to measure what they have done to this county either moraly or economicaly and they are not rhru. But all my life I have heard that what goes around comes around.

schwans needs to be baking shit pies because they are all full of it..they would work one good mule to death up there just to replace it with 3 old nags. sum bitches.. and nope i dont work there.. and i never have.. but i see my husband come draggin ass in every night barely able to breath from the chemicals that he works with just to be threatened with termination when he has to take off to see a doc. they want you to fill out fmla papers knowing that unless it is a proven ongoing illness that fmla will not cover it.. all of these people who have been doing a fine enough job for years are now being terminated for poor job performance.. surrrrrreeeeee.. gutless wonders. bottom line is this.. they know that they can.. treat people like shit and get away with it
have 1 person do the job of 3 and get away with it
have people doing jobs that make them sick.. like really sick .. not like .. oh this makes me sick sick ..
for the most part schwans is the only game in town and they know it..

Sounds like you enjoy complaining about it but enjoy even more having the money he makes to spend. If it truly makes him sick he should have no problem getting fmla, and if he were truly sick why didn't he have a doctors note which protects him from termination? If he's breathing chemicals why isn't he talking to safety? Standing around bellyaching isn't going to do anything except add a bellyache to his already sick body and bring home the paycheck. Which is what it's all about anyway isn't it. Some of us who don't have jobs would gladly go home dragging a** every night in order to have that weekly paycheck.

he does have a dr. statement and has talked to safety he has also brought me home the tags to check the damage that prolonged exposure to those chems will do.. and believe me.. its not good.. fmla covers on going illness.. he was off for food poisoning which is not an on going illness.. and is not covered by fmla. he isnt the one doing the belly aching.. i am .. and thank god i dont have to record my bellyaching to schwans..

Yep that Vortexx chemical is some bad stuff. I think I know who you are talking about. They wanted me to learn the CIP process but I told them no way. Once you accept and learn how to do something they will want you to do it again and again and you can't say you won't do a job once you have learned it or you will get fired. So I just said no and I turn down some of the other dangerous things they want me to do. If I am right about who your husband is, he should never of taken on the learning of that process cause he had some problems getting hired full time with his breathing didn't he? Yes, I read about the chemicals and some of them I don't take a chance with and wear all the protective equipment they have as one drop of it will immediately burn the skin and take the hair off you quick. Oh yes, nice pic of yourself in your profile, just took a minute to edit it back to they way it should be. Hope your hubby gets away from that particular dangerous job using those strong chemicals.

that's cool but there is a lot more at stake than a better childhood for your kids. They have a responsibility to provide a safe environment for their workers. If your husband is being exposed to something that is making him sick and doing irreparable harm to his respiratory system then he should consider a lawsuit or at the very least get out of that job. Good luck to you and him.

You best hope they don't figure out who he is by reading your posts unless he really wants to quit. It will come back on him.

I worked there for years. They finally did away with my job and sent me home with a little severance. But at least they didn't exactly fire me. Then they recreated my job with a different name and put somebody with no senority or benifits there. And somebody whether it was management or not spread rumors that I was to old to learn new things and couldn't get along with my co-workers. But I didn't have any trouble learning a much more complicated job in a totaly different field and get along fine with THESE co-workers.

BUT sending me home was the best thing they ever did for me. Knowing they were actively trying to get rid of me and trying hang on I really think would have killed me dead in a year or so. It was 14 kinds of hell. I know you won't believe it, but it's not worth it.

I wonder if the town has ever considered that all that sales tax money they are losing might be because only about 20 % of the Schwans employees are locals now, and whatever the commuters make there is being spent in other towns?
