I agree with the township. Stewartstown police are a bunch of bullies only caring about harassing residents and issuing tickets.

Whoever heard of pulling over a 70 year old lady doing 40 in a 35 AT THE BOTTOM OF A HILL! The women was in tears.

Agree with Wisnom. Hopewell township does not need Barney Fife. The Stewartsown Police have nothing better to do than hand out fines for going 17 miles an hour in the school zone. A zone that no student walk through . The best one was when they gave almost every house in the borough a fine for not shoveling sidewalks. This was last year after 4 feet of snow. The snow was plowed 15 feet high and no place to go with it.

Wrong, never lived in MD. I am sure most Barny Phife harrasing them to cover the expence of a police force. I doubt the people running hopewell township are from MD either. I have no problem with Real traffic enforcement. But they hand out tickets like a trout fisherman trying to get his limit of trout.

Thank you, David, for standing up for us! Yes, the borough police are a waste and hopefully the council will reign them in and get rid of the unneccesary costs and size of this ridiculous police force. I've heard of numerous issues where the Stewartstown PD are harrassing residents and school students. I didn't realize that travelling to and from a high school is considered jurisdiction, but I've heard stories of the police "monitoring" intersections where student traffic travels.
Thank you Hopewell

Thank you David! Borough Police are ridiculous! To stop someone that was traveling minimally over the speed limit (which is illegal - given), however it's ok for the police to travel at a much higher rate of speed to catch these criminals who may have been speeding or for an even more severe violation - dead inspection, dead tag, or some other vehicle violation?! I live in the township and have seen them fly past my house SEVERAL times at a much higher rate of speed than any car they are chasing! I've seen them stop people for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign (illegal), however have seen them rolling thru stop signs themselves. I've seen them cross the middle line, speeding out of a parking lot to stop someone for minimal speed, or the same violations mentioned above. I've seen one pull from W Penna Ave, straight onto RT 24, vehicles coming both directions, do a 3pt turn, to chase someone traveling W down W Penna Ave. finally catching them at the vacant lot past the railroad tracks.
If they pull someone over out of their jurisdiction (and not on a chase from the Borough) they should be made to pay court costs, fines, etc. they’d know their boundaries very quickly!
Who is putting the citizens in more danger?? The cops need to SET THE EXAMPLE!!!
The cops need to remember - they ARE the law, they are NOT above it!
And by the way --- I'm not a transplant - I'm a native!

Obviously you don't live near Stewartstown. The problem is they can't generate enough revenue in the tiny Borough to support 6 officers. They want to expand into the township so they can hand out more tickets. Keep them in the Borough. Hopewell township does not need them. I also find it ammusing that some Jackasses try to put people down because of where they are from.

I must applaud Mr. Wisnom. The police department in this town are pathetic. My son was driving threw town and was pulled over for his windows being one number to dark. On top off that, the cop sped threw town like a maniac to pull him over. What is up with that?? It is time that the Stewarstown Borough Council get some clues and realize they don't need all these assholes. How are our kids safe. They sit in town waiting for the littliest, no nonsense thing to happen, and then pull out, speed down threw the streets like the crime of the century just happened. How are our kids safe with that. It will be a shame when some child gets hurt for their pathetic actions.

Keep them out of Hopewell.

I applaud the Township for holding their ground. As for the comment referring to Hopewell residents as a "bunch of babies", you truly do not know the severity of the situation. Maybe as an outsider, it might look like we are a "bunch of babies." However, you have not witnessed the police in action or have experienced their antics. The Stewartstown Police continue to push their presence in areas where they are not wanted or really needed. And yet, when called out on these discretions, they claim it is for the "betterment" of Stewartstown. They have done nothing to better our community except to bring us closer to one goal. This goal is to keep the police force out of Hopewell Township. The residents have survived just fine this long without their presence. We sure in the hell don't need it now. The Hopewell Supervisors are looking out for the good of their residents. I commend their efforts and support them in their decision (s).

Bottom line tell them to get the he!! out of your town. They have no authority unless requested by the PSP for assistance in agiven situation. PSP since you do not have your own police force.

Go ahead..take that advise and tell em to get the he!! out. Funny how Paladin posts all the reasons Police CAN enter, remain and make arrests while out of their Primary jurisdiction. 1. If an Officer has an arrest warrant for someone that lives in Delta or Hopewell but they committed the crime in the Officers primary jurisdiction, the Officer has every right to be in that other area. 2. If a violation occurs in the view of the Officer in their own jurisdiction they can follow, chase, pursue and eventually stop the individual in another jurisdiction without permission. 3. If requested by PSP for example a municiple Officer can go to that location to assist, even if PSP doesn't go themeselves, due to their shortage of manpower. 4. If consent is given by the Chief of PSP or another dept. a municiple officer can go to their area to conduct, for example a follow up to a crime that occured in their own area. 5.While on official buisness in that other area (ie. warrant, follow up with permission, etc) and a crime is commited in their presence, an Officer can make a stop or arrest but then relinquish the person to PSP. Point is that you just told all the other idiots that make stupid comments on here, that don't understand law...what DOES give Police the right to be in other jurisdictions. Thank you for doing so.

It's common knowledge the chief bullied boro council to fire Charlie and hire him or he would quit. He bullied coucil to kick the Historical Society out or he would sue them for mold-allergy problems. Then they did a $300,000 office makeover and still occupy the old mold infested space plus a new office. Funny huh? He continues to bully citizens, school board members, school supt., buisness owners, local politicians and so on through his officers. Finally someone resisted.

I agree with Hopewell Township. The police dont do anything positive in the borough except harass certain age bracket female citizens, stop people for having a tag light out and other rediculous reasons. instead of doing important things to keep the borough safe there are 2 young officers that still choose to stalk young girls, follow them home and sit outside their homes why would any other area want them around!
They do not protect the kids they do nothing but hang at Rutters and talk to teenage girls. Our tax dollars at work. I think the borough council should go out in the town and drive around and see for themselves what happens after 9pm and the great cops they have.@ specifically should be looked at because the claims that have been made about young women are true and I hope the DA proved it!
