This entire article is bogus. It says that the city's 40,434 residents pay for these salaries. NO, only the HOME OWNERS are paying for these salaries. I find the data to be flawed because they're using an inaccurate population size to claim what the actual cost is. The ACTUAL COST is more than likely higher, because again, only the HOME OWNERS who pay property taxes and school taxes are being taken advantage of.

What are these two topdogs doing that make them worth 10's of thousands more than comparable or even larger townships?

They cut important budgets like police, fire and public works and spend money on all the pretty feel good things like sidewalks on streets nobody walks on or extra trees on their property so they can gloat about how nice things look. These townships are crazy. Let's all compete to see who can make the nicest township building, nicest park, nicest intersection etc... Don't worry about what we really need. We will all just sit back and relax in our nice parks when trespassers come into break into our cars, rob our stores and cheat us all out of even more money. Wake up America!!! Liberalism is a mental disease. It must be nice to award yourself a $17,000 raise each year which is what most of them do. After all, they worked so hard for it.

"...best deals in the county when it comes to business administrator Michael O'Rourke, who handles the lion's share of the city's day-to-day administrative duties..."

Best raw deal! Every one of his managers has either quit or been fired. Nice going, O'Rourke.

Bad data. Stew Graybill hasn't been the borough manager in Red Lion in over a year.

people want the police to show up when there's a problem, they want firefighters to show up, they want streets plowed at the first snowflake, they want trash collected, they want their toilets to flush, they want parks for their kids and they want potholes fixed but they want this all to happen for free like magic.

face it folks, if you want all the little things taken care of that you take for granted each day then you're going to have to pay for a professional staff to manage it. maybe a few of these guys are overpaid but most are underpaid. you want to give someone 10 bucks an hour to run the show and watch your community fall apart, be my guest.

Typical newspaper article. You cannot lump all of this data together and be comparing apples to apples. For example, it is not fair to compare the salary of a manager to a sec/treas and if you want to have quality, long-term employees you need to pay them a decent wage. Don't take this article at face value!
