The stewartstown Railroad should be preserved. It is a big part of the History and livelyhood of Stewartstown, PA

Please rip the tracks out of Mill Street, RT 851 and Wendy hill road. Going over neglected railroad tracks for no reason is getting old. Year after year of cars getting beat to death crossing tracks that are no longer in use. How many tires have to be ruined before we call it quits.

Short spur lines in areas such as Southern Yorn County don't make any money with freight - history has proven that. You need commerce parks with a lot of business for spur lines to make sense. Remove the rails, sell the steel for scrap, and create a rail trail that connects Stewartstown to the heritage rail trail. Dreams of operating railroads on defunct tracks aren't reality - the cost to maintain the tracks and equipment is far higher than the income generated - they amount to nothing but big boy toys.

Amen to that.
Of course. Even Amtrak loses money every year. How can anyone think a little tourist line can make. Money long term?

Just what everyone needs another trail...why does everyone want rail trails. Don't get me wrong..trails are great, but there are already trails in the area. Stewartstown wouldn't have been on the map if not for the railroad and clearly tourism does bring $$$$ look at the operation in New Freedom with Steam into History.Com merce parks use trucks and tend not to use rail. If you want potholes and trucks that's the way to go! Complaining about tires on rail crossings..if trucks start running around town you'll have cracked windshields and chipped paint. The rail crossings can be fixed. Good luck enticing large company's to move to a small town. Tourism is an excellent option to attract people and the railroad is a good way to do it. Unless of course you believe we should forget about history and want to stay a sleepy little town. Everything isn't always about money, although a lot of people in the world seem to share this belief.
