Maybe if the DWI laws weren't so HARSH and UNREASONABLE he wouldn't of had to shoot himself. I understand how it is incredibly wrong to drink and drive because it takes lifes... but obvioulsy the way the authorities are handling DWI's isn't working, because the rate isn't going down, it is going up. All it is, is a profit for the government. Not benificial to the citizens. They need to have breathalizers availble to the public, or more buses more places. It's absolutly rediculous.

Let me see if I understand you correctly. The backseat passenger was so distraught over the oppressive DWI laws that he thought the only option was to take his own life? Yeah, makes perfect sense.

They guy who shot himself was in the back seat. The driver was on his way to the hospital when he was pulled over for DWI....that is what the article said.

Harsh and unreasonable my ass. DWI arrests are going up because law enforcement is actually going after drunk drivers - rather than just looking the other way.

I would be willing to say that the number of drunk drivers has probably gone down -- despite the number of arrests going up.(Although, I don't know that that's fact either -- but I'll agree with you for arguments sake.) More people may be being arrested for drunk driving, but that would most likely also mean that more people recognize the risk of getting caught drunk driving is higher and will therefore be less likely to drive drunk

Plus, the person shot in this story isn't the drunk.

The drunk was driving around with someone who was shot in the backseat of his car. AND, the guy had been shot (per the story) at least THREE HOURS EARLIER. What the hell was going on during those three hours?

Sarah, you sound like someone who thinks "Why drink if you ain't gonna drive?" And, if you think having a breathalyzer available is so important -- go buy yourself one.

I agree.. This was a very poorly written piece. the timeline was way off, and it was unclear who was driving, who was shot, and when.

Good, clean journalism. Maybe it was the first article after journalism school...

Not only was the guy shot a passenger not the guy arrested for DWI..Read the story.. but they do sell breathalizers. Best purtchase I ever made.:)

Well THIS Sarah (who also has the St. Paul ISP when using a different computer) doesn't think that the DWI laws are harsh and unreasonable).

This Sarah also took note of the fact that the article said the shooting was an ACCIDENT.

This Sarah thinks that the other sarah should pay a wee bit more attention.

Yep, I didn't quite get this either.... uhh, someone was drunk, someone was driving, someone was in the back seat, and someone shot himself.

Oh, and it was in Wisconsin, so let's rip on Wisconsin because of course there are no stupid and/or drunk people in Minnesota.

Alrighty then, next story please.
