Today's Society is just plain nuts! I bet the two dead officers families did not recieve that amount of money to pay thier bills after thier husbands and fathers were murdered!!! Faron Barksdale MURDERED two human beings trying to protect and serve my community.

I think that the prisons should learn that they make mistakes too, and just maybe this will show and help them to comprehend that just because someone breaks the law dont mean THAT THERE STILL NOT A HUMAN BEING & SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE ONE REGARDING WHATEVER THE CHARGE MAYBE THAT TOOK THEM TO THE PRISON TO BEGIN WITH!!!

If the Alabama prison system is not hiding anything, why are they fighting to keep the findings public?

They shouldn't have given these people anything for the death of this piece of crap. Good riddance...should have saved the tax payers tons by him dying. His family should have to give every penny to the families of the officers he killed in cold blood. Hopefully his family has left the area...who cares about them...NO ONE!

He wasn't worth a penny, much less 750K. The survivors of his killing spree should receive the money, not the killer's family.

A lot of hateful people responding to this story. The mother of the convicted cop killer did not kill a cop. She had a son who was sent to prison. The State failed to keep him safe, they settled so in my eyes they are admitting wrong. The family of the victims had every right to go after the convicted killer in a civil wrongful death suit. Is it fair, no. But people in prison have the right to life, if little else.

usually when someone has something to hide they settle out of court.what bothers me more is the fact that the mother who cared so much about finding out the truth about how her son died now has said by her actions who cares I got the money. and if you look into it in the state of alabama has a freedom of information system in place unless someone really wants to see some records that should be public information and then the AG or powers that be will then say whoa we have to take a look at these records and see if this is really public information we did not think anyone wouldreally ask to see them

Who are we to judge this man? What was his mental status? Does anybody really care? It is much easier to say he got what he deserves. What happened to forgiveness and loving each other? No one can say what his poor mother has went through. What about the potential murderers of Farron Barksdale. Another example of throwing stones in a glass house. God Bless all those involved in this tragedy.

The only thing I have to say to this COP KILLER FAMILY are MOTHER is I think its funny they killed his sorry a** in prison. He got what he deserved. The fact you filed a law suit of this piece of garbage shows your not much better than he is. The cops that caught him after the shooting should have took care of him before he ever got the chance to make it to trial. Hope he rots in H***. And for the people that thinks suing the prison system for the justice they served hope you rot with him!!!!!!!!!!

I wish the families of the two slain officers could turn around and sue the family of Farron Barksdale for $750,000. Wouldn't that be justice?

All she really cared was about the money she was going to get. Let's see what she does with it once it is in her hands.

Wow.. Farron Barksdale killed 2 Athens police officers and now his family is rewarded 750,000 dollars. Barksdale was serving a life sentence instead of the death penalty. With a crime like this anybody stupid enough to kill a police officer should automatic get the death penalty.. The Families of the 2 police officers should be rewarded because of the 2 police officers died in the line of duty trying to protect and serve there community.

To respond to Justice: Look in the news papers and on the internet news. WE have COPS going to prison for drug dealing, stealing money from drug enforcement safes, starving prisoners by feeding them only corndogs, sex crimes, murder,so many crimes made by cops I cant put them all down here, and i'm just talking here in Alabama. I dont agree with what Faron Barksdale did but when you look at it "TO PROTECT AND SERVE"does not have the same meaning it used to. W e have an obligation to up hold the law not violate it just because we are officers of the law. That includes prisoners that are placed in our protection.
