How unfortunate that the vandals did not realize that the good citizens of the county would somehow come together again, and rebuild. I'm not sure what the motive was. The school is a primary school so, I don't believe the vandals thought the school would close and there would be no "finals". Only the childrens' dreams and our pocektbooks were hurt, thank goodness. Fie on you vandals!

The previous comment echoes the Sterling sentiment - the destruction was pointless, mean and without reward for the perpetrator or perpetrators. Not to argue semantics, but setting fire to a school structure is beyond vandalism, it is arson. This fire had a strong life to it before responders from Loudoun and Fairfax brought it under control. We are fortunate that no firefighters were injured on this fire, though as soon as the next day in Leesburg fire got the upper hand. This crime was no brick through a window; the investigation and penalties should reflect this distinction.

this site is just a bad location for a playground to begin with. It is too hidden behind the school. I have only attempted once to take my children there. As soon as I saw the age of the teens hanging out I decided to leave and not come back. It did not provide a safe feeling.

I am glad that LCPS is adding more cameras, and I hope that Loudoun County can provide additional policing of the area on walking patrols.

Individual Loudoun County deputies assigned to Sterling have promised to conduct more foot patrols. There is a huge community investment in this project, including departmental and personal contributions of labor and money from both firefighters and police. Some details are available at
