Actually that is a picture of the Herndon Town Hall building. It sits across a small parking lot from the old train depot (Which is currently a small museum and visitors center. This building was never a bank building.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it was a BANK! I know, I used to to go over to that bank when I was young with my grandmother. Oh yeah, it was a bank, and if you don't think so, just go research your records. The train station?
I would go with my mother to Roslyn and catch the trolly over to DC from that station. So, check with any old timer and see for yourself.

Yep, this used to be a bank, and speaking today, you're right, it is the Herndon Town Hall...NOW!
Some of my ancestors are in the photo albums that the museum has there. But, yes, that building was a Bank, and a check of your history, will show that it was, so NEVER was?
Again, check your history and you will see that, that statement just isn't right, for it is quite evident that you don't know your Herndon history very well.

Okay. I'll take your word for it. What offices are in that building now then. I was told that the Herndon Municipal Building is where almost all of the town offices are located today. Who works in the Town Hall building? Just curious.

Not to argue with you Shadow Walkerbut I asked a person who works with the local historical society about the Town Hall building and according to that person, "Town Hall has not ever housed a bank. It was built in the 1950's
and was home to the Post Office at one time and the jail. The Great Harvest Bread Company building was once Citizens' National Bank, and the Pink brick building next to it, built in 1910 was originally the National Bank of Herndon, and various other banks after that."

No, I won't argue with what you found, for if you're not a long time Herndon resident, you wouldn't know, so really, it's no big deal, I can handle it..........but it was the bank, I remember it very distinctly. I mean, it's no matter of life and death, I just know what I know. Oh well, you know only what you're told, and if they don't know that the bank was once in that building, then I guess they don't.
That fire station at the end of Eldon st., well I went to school there for one year, it's the station that's right next door to the old Herndon library, and my class was up on the second floor above the fire station.

You know, I'm not sure just what's in there now, although when I wanted some shrubs removed from my grandparents grave site @ Chesnut Grove Cemetery, that building is where I went to have that taken care of, and their offices were downstairs. As to what else is located there at the moment, I cannot say, as I didn't really pay any attention to that at the time.

John,
After some digging, I found out the 'Bank' was the Post Office. I knew that I remember that building was either the bank or Post Office, and it just seemed to me that it was the bank, but alas..........it wasn't, but there was the Post Office there about that time.
Now, as for what's there now, I don't know, as I've not been there for some time now, but the last time I was there, the people who take care of Chesnut Grove Cemetery are now located in the downstairs area of the Town Hall. So, there you have it.......No bank.........Post Office. I guess being so young, and noticing the 'bars' on the windows made me think that it was the bank, but I will confess to you..........I was wrong, but not ALL wrong, for I knew it was one of the two, I just made the wrong guess.

Tis I, who must apologize......It was a Post Office, not a Bank. When I was young, my grandmother used to take me on her journey to the 'bank', or at least that's what, to my young mind, it appeared to me.......I mean, the 'teller' windows looked or reminded of the bank, but upon further review, it was indeed, a Post Office. My grandmother Cummings lived just a few blocks away on Locust St. I'm not sure just when the building became the "Town Hall", but I think it was after I left Herndon, in 1953.

It was the Post Office in 1954 when my family moved there.
