It is great to read that embryonic stem cells are not going to be used in the clinical study. The utilization of embryonic stem cells in medical research is immoral and inhumane. It contradicts the ethics of a civilized society. There is a lot of promising scientific research being conducted using adult stem cells and cord blood.I believe in the right to life for all persons. This includes the unborn.God grants every human being the right to life and human life begins at conception. We should all respect the life of the unborn.

Yep, you don't want the science, but continue to destroy the embryos. So far the Bush veto of embryonic stem cell research has not saved one embryo.

Yep G...., if I had my way, we would have used you as an embryo to test brain cells. Nope, that would have entered an empty space.

So you think you are doing mankind a favor by restricting science. And you were probably the one that told Christopher Columbus that the world was flat.

But go ahead a restrict science, and keep the 360 fertility clinics open and keep on destroying the embryos. You guys are very smart.

A quick Google of fetal stem cells will show the science sucks as a cure. They usualy die a horrible death with fetal cells. Adult cells, OTOH, have many cures to their credit and are less risky. As far as I know there is not ONE breakthrough with fetal cells. If there were, you would have PRIVATE money all over it and no need of the government. Fetal cell research is legal, just not with my tax money.

It takes a lot of money for research and that is why you need taxpayer money. The NIH is an incubator for new drugs and works with universities. There are two private companies in the U.S. working on embryonic stem cell research.

But since you want to play god with science. Then maybe you can decide what we should have or not have. Do we need research in embryonic stem cell research, adult stem cells, monoclonal antibodies, DNA, RNA, Antisense, TNFerade, or gene therapy? Since in your brilliant mind, you can choose which is the best or we can work on all of them.

And since Bush has played God. He would disagree with his own director of the NIH, 40 Nobel laureates, the AMA, the American Diabetes Association, 500 organizations, congress, California and other states, Singapore, and more than half the American people.

Shawn, your viewpoint is sickening. First of all, you're making one thing (a treatment for Crohns) into to something else (an ethics/religious issue). As someone with Crohns, this infuriating. Crohn's is not talked about in the mainstream. It does not have a lot of recognition. But here is one small opportunity to talk about it and a treatment, and you make it about YOU and YOUR RELIGION.

You think you're being humble and supplicating to what God wants, but you're sitting on the fence. You want to touch nothing that God made, then go away from the computer that man built. And meanwhile, you better hope that I and others like me suffer for the rest of our lives with Crohn's Diesease because God gave us Crohn's.

I just hope that there are more people out there who will take opportunities and give them a chance. Embryonic stem cells may not save the world, but they could be useful in some cases. Whether it's us personally or the people we love, we all know and love someone who is suffering. We should explore all we can to help and save them. God - or nature - gave us these great minds to do just that.

But, Shawn, it is YOU who's playing God by choosing what's right and what's wrong.

I have to agree with David. It is an absolute shame that these degenerates have nothing better to do than use this topic to share their ignorant opinions about irrelevant issues when scientists are on the cusp of making some miraculous breakthroughs in the search for a cure for a debilitating disease. Shame on you. Now go tell that man in the sky wearing the rope that says " you are good, you are bad. I made you and I love you more than anything, but I'm going to throw you in a lake of fire because you have sinned.
