I just dont think derrick would do something like that he has children of his own that he loves and cares about. He is a great loving person. And seriously when they read his background history off what person doesnt have driving with no ins. when i was young i had things on my back ground that doesnt mean i am the same person today as i was back then. To me that means they dont have anything to really hold him to this fire. No one should be accusing him of something until they find him guilty with some hard core evidence because it is not right. I am not saying what has happened to those children isnt sad because it is i have two daughters of my own however as kind as derrick is to everyone and his own children i dont see him doing something like this.

If you are so sure then why don't you go to the States Attorney and tell him to drop charges and let him go? Better yet save your time and go visit him him at Menard every weekend for the rest of his life while the Owen family go to a cematery to visit their loved ones.Remember these little kids were the innocent ones not that asshole

derrick is considered a WITNESS which is like a person of interest im not saying he did do it or he didn't do it.. im just saying that until someone has hard evidence on someone no one should place blame.. that is on anyone in any case... im not saying that what happened to those children was wright because it wasn't but you cant go around in life hating people that you do even no for sure did such a thing like this. im not taking sides by all means im just saying that I knew derrick and i just don't see him doing something like this.. i don't see him doing something bad that could cost him to never be able to see or hold his own children again that's all

HE IS NOT CHARGED AS GUILTY THERE IS ANOTHER COURT DATE THE 3RD...WHO IS THE MORON NOW.the charges are on him for four counts if he is considered guilty..... haven't you ever heard of innocent until proven guilty... And if he they do find him guilty then the punishment he gets he will deserve im not sticking up for him I just believe in the saying that your innocent until proven guilty and if something happened to me in my life time or any of my family members I would want the same for me a fair trial and hard evidence. That's all

No the death penalty will not be reinstated lol, that will never be again. It amazes me how because the state has A suspect in custody everyone things hes guilty and needs the death penalty that's just wrong. at least give this man a fair trial... how would you feel if it was you in his shoes and you were not guilty and you were not given a fair trial. you wouldn't like it we can all sit on here and vent back and forth however the 3rd (which is the next court date) will bring justice

Did you go to the wake or funeral and see these kids family's pain and grief? These kids were the ONLY innocent ones in this case and they got the death sentence even though they never got a fair trial or any day in court for that matter.Maybe it should have been your house and your pain with this outcome.

Your over looking the point of what i am saying IF they can sho the world some hard evidence that he did it than yes he does need to be locked up, however what they have told the world on the news is not enough to send someone away for life. If it was you...you...would want a fair trial to plead your case and weither you like it or not he will be getting a trial to show weither he is guilty of four counts of 1st degree murder or if he is not.

Do you not understand our justice system?First you are arrested. Then you are charged on the evidence they have against you. Then they ask if you can afford an attorney .If not one is given to you with the tax payers paying for it--even the victims family. Then you plead-guilty or not guilty. Then a trial where the evidence comes out.The States Attorney does not put out all the evidence to the public before the trial.
What do you want? You want him turned loose now so he can run and hide like a bitch he is or maybe finish killing more people?Defend him all you want.Visitation is seven days a week at all Illinois prisons. So get ready to buy you both HoHo's and WhamWham's while you visit him

All im saying is everyone in the world deserves a fair trial... I am not a family memeber to him so i dont want you to have the impression that i am completly sticking up for what has happened to this man, because i am not it is a very sad situation of what has happened to these children. however i just hope that when the next court appearence arrives they tell the world something more than we have a witness in custody that is awaiting trial that has a long rap sheet of traffic violations ect. that is all i am saying!!!!! there is one thing that i am very curious on is why is actual wife is not on the news making a statement on his behalf and why they picked his EX-WIFE to get on t.v and make a statement.

If you watched the news the piece of shit told people at the bar he was going to do it. Then it happens. He should have been shot instead of arrested!

No i am not ignorant... i guess i just never thought that he would do something so crewl that would jepordize his own releationship with is own children. I mean if he loves his children with all his heart which he does,, it just shocks me that he would never want to see his children get married or hold the or see them grow. I geuss that is why i am so stuck in wanting to see the outcome on the next court date

Someone who cares, you do realize that just because a motive or more evidence has not been released on the news or in articles doesn't mean it doesn't exist right? Limited information about a case, any case is released at the beginning because there has to be evidence to make a charge and use to show a jury if need be. You keep saying 'if all they have on them'. They likely have much more on them than has been released, that is how court cases work to ensure a fair trial in the latter (if it comes to a trial).

He has been arraigned and charged on 4 counts of 1st degree murder, that means there is evidence existing that enabled the courts to charge him with that. Whether the evidence be witnesses at the scene of the crime, fingerprints and/or footprints or other physical evidence linking the suspect to the scene of the crime, or the suspects own admission in his actions regarding the crime there is some form of evidence that has enabled the courts to charge him with murder and have him held without bond.

I'm not here to say if he did it or not, I'm not from the town and I know none of the facts or rumors, just trying to better explain how the court proceedings work.

ST. LOUIS (KSDK)- We have new information about a man accused of a quadruple murder.

Derrick Twardoski, 33, is charged with intentionally setting the fire that killed four children in Percy, Ill. last week.

Wednesday, Mike Rush spoke with Twardoski's former long-time girlfriend.

Brandy, who didn't want us to reveal her last name, says she dated Derrick Twardoski for four years. They have a 5-year-old son together. But she says the guy she was romantically involved with is a much different man now and she thinks she has an idea why.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," said Brandy. "I wish there was something I could do to turn back time and make him not do this."

That's what Brandy says she would say to the Owen family given the chance.

"It was the most unbelievable news I've ever had in my life," she said.

The man she once loved, the father of her son, is charged with murdering 12-year-old Ethan Owen, 9-year-old Kailey, and their twin brothers, Brandan and Landan, who were five. That's the same age of the son they share together.

"I'm just letting everyone know that that's not the person that I knew. That's not the father or the man that I was with. No way, it wouldn't have lasted a week," Brandy said.

Brandy says the couple broke up about two years ago around the time Derrick suffered a severe head injury.

"He jumped out of a moving vehicle," said Brandy.

"He was drunk. Had been drinking," asked Mike Rush.

"Yes," she said.

She says he was never the same. He was distant and suffering from depression and anxiety. She says he became a devoted church-goer to battle his demons, but then stopped.

After the murders and his arrest, Brandy says she tried, unsuccessfully to visit Derrick in jail.

"It wasn't to console him. I basically needed some closure as to why. What happened to you? Why did you do this to this family? Why did you do this to these children? Why did you do this to our children," said Brandy.

Brandy says with their son, a daughter from a previous marriage, and step-children in a current marriage, Twardoski has six kids.

She wanted to make sure people know she doesn't support or make excuses for him in any way and that she passes along her deepest sympathies to the Owen family.
