I remember Monticello from the late '50's and early '60's on..... Town completely closed up at 6p.m., even on the weekends. Everyone would go to town on Saturdays and you knew everybody there. My grandpa would give us each a quarter, and my goodness the bag full of penny candy's we were able to buy! People back then would actually come out and help a neighbor who needed help, without having to be asked OR expecting anything in return. It's just what you did.. The community came together for each other.

Good times being a kid back then.

I remember pulling into a gas station and three attendants would come out. One would ask how much gas you wanted while one checked your oil and the other was checking your tire pressure.

I also remember four seater out houses at some service stations, how could one ever forget that. lol

I remember hearin' a story about a woman riding a goat around the town square at Monticello. That was when it was still wet in Wayne co., my Dad and mom used to have some contacts over there and the woman was an aquaintance. He also had a nickname for her son, Papoose I believe is what it was.

I remember E and T Chili in Pine Knot. They had some good food!
