Moved to the area in 1972. By then the Scott co. schools had consolidated to Scott High from Norma, Huntsville, and Robbins high schools. Pine Knot still had a high school, but the other school was McCreary Central. What were the high schools before Central was formed? When did the consolidation happen? Just curious cause I don't know the answer.

McCreary County High and Pine Knot High. Class of 79 was the 1st year class that graduated after the two merged.

Sorry. I'm asking what high schools were there before McCreary County? Was there a Stearns High or a Whitley City High?

McCreary County and Pine Knot combined to make McCreary Central. As Answers said above.

What I am asking is did the town of Whitley City have its own high school? Did the town of Stearns have its own high school? If so, when did they close?

Stearns did have a high school. Their basketball team played games in a gym above the store down town Stearns. I played against them there back in the fifties, You could'nt put much arch on a long shot or it would hit the rafters.

Now we are getting somewhere. Does anyone know when the high school at Stearns closed? Did it merge with other high schools to form the consolidated school (not including Pine Knot) on old 27 between Whitley City and Stearns? One would assume that Whitley City had a high school since it is the county seat. Come on, folks. Someone surely knows the history of secondary education in McCreary County.
