Stearns is practically dead any more. I don't know who is in charge but they are doing a very poor job. One store has already closed and it wouldn't surprise me if they all go somewhere else.

well you should know the train is in charge , cause without it there would be no stearns, just like without the mines there was no stearns, but don't look to me to want stearns coal back all it did was kill and maim alot of good people and make rich people out of the owners, far be it from me to want anything erected to remember those people, even the sign knows its wrong, the bulbs blow out so much it costs more to replace them than the whole damn sign is worth .also listen to that old song with the words "owe my soul to the company store", then remember that is where stearns came from.

happened to go through stearns and it did me a world of good to see no lighted sign, and if it weren't for the train owners being in cahoots with someone of power in the federal system don't see it staying long either, better get them lips brown boys, i heard they were so full of s--t their eyes turned brown, just a good recoating of the lips and tongue will be fine.

Looks like the Stearns Restaurant is open under new management. I didn't know they could sell something that was restored with grant money provided to promote tourism. County money was also given for this purchase, I guess when free taxpayer money is offered, it would be foolish to not buy into it. I hope the restaurant does good, at least that way the tourists will benifit in a small way and that will boost the flow of more money into the county. It is sad though that the only ones that will get any of the money are friends and family of those in charge.

if that is true that allocated funds were there for this kind of thing does it surprise you that an ex-magistrate is now the proprietor. now one more time tell me that people run and hold and keep these official offices for the betterment of me and you, lmfao

please, please, please someone tell me one more we have a government of the people by the people for the people, it makes me very sad to know that our government is actually of the elected , by the elected and for the elected and please forget about those whom elected you. i am becoming more in tune to jeffersons' statement about democracy being another name for mafia.

The new owner is also on the Stearns Heritage Foundation so he voted on the sale of the property to himself. How convenient that these crooks can do this. I know other local business owners who were never given this much opportunity or even advised of any local money available.

My friend tried to get a job there but they told her they didn't want any piercings or tattoos because they have christian customers that eat there.

Stearns Restaurant was sold, but the building/space where it's located was not, which means the LEASE was sold from the previous "owners" who leased the restaurant, NOT the Heritage Foundation, which is a NON-PROFFIT ORGANIZATION who MANAGES most of the buildings in Stearns.

The new "owners" are fine people, who have worked hard to get that place opened & back up & running again. I would bet it's now one if the cleanest places here in the county to eat, reasonably priced & great food!

The money available for the loan was no secret. A limited amount of money is available here in the county for small businesses, & if any if you were (or are) interested in working hard enough to start up your own business, then nothing's stopping you from applying for one of those small business loans, unless you're only on here to bitch about people who are actually trying to do something decent for Stearns & make an honest living!

The Heritage Foundation is trying to keep Stearns going so it doesn't fold up, & they're in charge of the scenic railway (which is also NON-PROFFIT), that brings over 30,000 people to McCreary County every year, & that's a PROVEN FACT THAT CAN EASILY BE VERIFIED! I don't know of any other business that's doing even half that much to help our economy.

Jealousy is evil, but something we must accept as a fact of life, & it's always present where ever people are successful. Good thing it's not going to keep Stearns from prevailing in a county that needs all the help it can get to keep the local economy afloat!

key part of that sentence about the available money, "limited amount" for which you will be required to jump through flaming hoops to get, unless you have an insiders knowledge of how to blow out the flames and then all falls in place, WAH LAH!!!!!!!,nice small business loan, of which if the business fails, you won't have to pay back much, nice way to see if your interested in being a business person and loosing no personal money, myself i hope they make it and can't get out of paying every single penny back and the minimal interest charge also, i love McCreary County, but i very much dislike the fact that people are willing to lie to their "friends and family and enemies" to increase the productivity of their own bank account. just tell the truth without all the bull and every business in this area will survive.

oh yeah and after all their work if it is a success, they still won't own anything, why not just rent? because stearns company wouldn't get more money than the rent, i am so sorry for the new proprieter, you now owe your soul to the "company store" i just as soon eat at arbys'i guess at least i can't remember david ross being responsible for life and limb of any of my closest relatives or having a "stearns mansion" looking down on all the "company holdings" of course now i guess most of the stearns revenue goes to oneida these days, i believe that is where the majority ruler of the "company" lives.

the scrip is worth considerable money and to me it is worth more than the whole stearns company, to me it symbolizes how our ancestors worked and lived and died to make rl stearns and his descendants very rich.

there is more don't forget now your federal government is in bed with the stearns company, as they rent and maintain an office in the train station, see even they are proud of the killing of your ancestors. bsf-being sodomized forever.

They wanted me to pay around 100 dollars to place a small brass plaque honoring my grandfather who worked in mine 18 and died from black lung.

I walk through stearns almost every day and it looks like a dump with plywood windows and torn curtains. The buildings are rotting down and half painted. Saw the gravel you have to drive through to get into town. What are they going to do if one pops out from under a truck tire and hits someone, doubt if they care though. They don't even have a handrail on the steps to the train station which shows they care little for the tourists and residents who go there.

They sell plastic spray painted figurines in the shops there and claim it is crafted from coal, what a joke. Hope they all get sued for that someday.

The train people won't let the train stop in Barthell, and they claim they are helping the county. What a joke they are.

If the figurines are not made from coal as they advertise then they should be reported for fraud and all the shops that sell it should be sued too.
