gvt subsidies are good

-$100,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund
- eligible to receive benefits from the Virginia Enterprise Zone Program, administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development
- Virginia Department of Business Assistance (VDBA) will provide funding and services to support the company's recruitment and training activities.

it takes $100000 in taxpayer money to create 34 jobs? guess its better than $40 million for a new double A baseball stadium in richmond.

The big questions are, how crappy are the jobs and do they pay worth a squat?

A better question might be: "what can you do?" It cracks me up when somebody says that they will do "whatever" or asks, "what have you got?" If a person is good at something that's in demand, then they can get a good job doing that. If they slept through school, forgot to learn a skill, or picked a dead field, then they will have to settle for "whatever."

100,000 created 34 new jobs? maybe the gov should have given 1,000,000 and create 340.

I know you can't believe everything you read but I have read that Obama's stimulus plan ended up spending anywhere from $1 - $4 million per job created. Seems we got a steal from our governor if that is true.

Why the heck is taxpayer money subsidizing private enterprise, especially these days?

So why repeat it if you can't believe it? Trust your first reaction.

As far as McDonnell's announcing "new jobs", he did not create them, and $100,000 is only part of the subsidy enticement for them to relocate to Staunton. The other taxpayer financed programs to bribe them here could cost more than the $100,000.

Not a subsidy, it barely covers the cost of relocation and retraining their workforce. It is an incentive to move here. Nice try.

Actually Carded Graphics has been in Staunton for years. It was previously Carded Graphics Inc., and was bought in 2006 when it became Carded Graphics LLC. They had an expansion in 2007 which was announced by Gov. Kaine.

I guess I should have labeled my post as being sarcastic in nature, my bad.

Not sarcastic though is that I am glad there are companies out there comfortable enough to consider expanding - with or without government aid. Truly remarkable that companies will still try to expand and grow given the total lack of leadership by our government - both Dems and Repubs. Along with that the future doesn't appear any brighter regarding our government.

For those saying the people can change it please tell me how. We constantly have to pick from the lesser of two evils. We have two political parties that only pander to their (minority) extremist. Of course that is probably because they are the ones willing to put their money where their LOUD mouth is.

For those believing the locations listed under a users 'handle' are their actual locations you are mistaken. I am not technically savvy when it comes to Internet 'stuff' so I can't explain why but I live and work in Albemarle county (and was born and raised in Virginia). I have nothing against WV, just wanted to clear things up.
