This council spends more time trying to spend more of your money for things that are not their responsibility. They create these things to keep themselves (in their mind) relevant. So they propose charging for rain and then spend more money to create more racial divide. There are laws already in place, just rarely used. More control is all they are after.

How can anybody say there are "offending employers" when the city creates 90K a year jobs on a whim to satisfy their cockeyed view of the world?

The only way the city can try to say an employer is unfair is if the state takes the court websites down. Otherwise the unsuccessful applicants will have their past crimes revealed to the world.

INDEED, with mobile smart phones, mobile payment systems, mobile this and that, and the expectations that they create, the hybridization of humanity that had started long ago, hurried faster along. Expect inmplants soon. We already have several social segregation, privilege granting, etc based on mobile technologies; with implants additional castes will emerge.

The greatest problem is not lack of enforcement powers, but that the City is such a small domain, with most housing, most employment, most health care delivery IN THE COUNTY. And, just in case you didn't know: virtually ALL OF THE UNIVERSITY - including its employments, and its hospital - are IN THE COUNTY, not the City.

If everyone got together to figure out a way to make Charlottesville even more unfriendly to businesses they would probably dream up this commission.
Small businesses have little to be concerned about. The big issues of discrimination are in housing, and with public housing, and in employment practices of large employers, including the City as employer. Small businesses are generally not the worst actors. And, we certainly must all admit that some businesses - large and small -do sometimes discriminate wrongly, and sometimes blatantly, particularly harming older persons and persons with disabilities.

Used to be that the dems in Charlottesville were reasonable idealists. Heck I liked a lot of them. Lately though it increasingly seems that they admire and cater to some bad elements..notice I did not say homeless...whether they be panhandlers, occupier anarchists, or any others with a grudge or agenda. Folks, this is what organizers do. Socialist and borderline Communist organizers. Make no mistake they are trying their best to destroy business..real business...not hippie boutiques and bars. Charlottesville has always been quirky but now it's getting increasingly seedy and polarized. I encourage the remaining democrats with sense to get back to a bit of common sense and vision for the future rather than focusing on past "wrongs". A mini Detroit may be the result one day if this continues. Reasonable people are getting sick of it and Charlottesville is beginning to be the butt of jokes in the state.

It's ironic that you bring up Detroit, because that's the exact same rhetoric that was used to destroy Detroit. 90% of US Americans are making less today than they were 30 years ago. If people have less disposable income, they can purchase less. You cannot sustain a consumer society without disposable income. The average income of the lower 90% of the nation is $30K/Yr, which is $4K/yr less than it was in 1970 in terms of 2011 dollars.

What the perspective is, and the reality is, is alarming.

BTW, don't use terms that you don't understand. Do you support the military? And communism isn't absolute socialism... just stop.
