Problems at the African American Elks Lodge are not new, but there are now many more viable businesses and pedestrians in the area than there used to be. The police do what they can and Longo has asked for cameras on the mall along with businesses. The answer from council? Nothing but "mall ambassadors" and "concerns" over civil rights. Many cops feel they don't get backed to do POLICE work. Get some business people in council instead of socialists and the place might be able to avoid becoming a ghost town. Don't think for a minute that a new "mall" couldn't spring up just outside the city limits and Albemarle PD would get the backing to police it properly.

How often I've read here that its not the cops job to protect people. Obviously they believe that too.

From the article: "People in the community who know the victim and the suspect say they were friends who just got into a fight that night." Friends generally don't shoot each other.

It'll be interesting to see how (and if) City Council steps up to the plate and handles this ongoing downtown problem. More than likely, they'll suggest moving Civil War statues or try to figure out a way to generate consulting contracts that are an obvious conflict of interest.

The State ABC needs to revoke the Elk's ABC license. No booze, no party, no problem. Pretty freakin simple.

"Every time Joann Dunkle walks into her family's business that she manages, she's reminded of what she saw early Saturday morning."

Does this make ANY sense? EVERY time....as in the one or maybe two times that she has had to walk into the business since it happened? This comment by the lady may be appropriate if they were interviewing her a year or so after the incident....not the night after.

The ONLY person I feel sorry for in this incident is the Officer. Longo is going to do his best to crucify this guy. Hope he's got a lawyer or a member of the PBA or FOP who WILL back him, cause heaven knows the chief wont....he wont let his officers go more than 20 over the speed limit regardless of what the call is. How secure does that make the general public feel? Hope you aren't expecting help to get there in a hurry.

'sez you' is a troll just trying to say whatever it takes to get attention...best to ignore him lest 'randomthoughts' and 'guardian' show up and complete the trio of idiocy...

Google up some Warren v. District of Columbia and you'll learn something amazing. "Protect and Serve" is a lie.

msybe kristin szackos could go down there and have a diversity committee meeting.

I am sure those brothers would be a lttle less restless if she brought a bus load of white females in for a sock hop.

Well I don't live under a bridge, I don't think I look like a troll, not according to a 6ft hot blond I know, although I don't care for blonds. Naaa, I just state the obvious, like it or not, Somtimes the other guys agree sometimes they don't, either way, its all good. So they say.

2nd Street Businesses,

Don't wait for Town Clowncil to do anything...they won't. The best thing you can do is get away from C'ville and move to the County.
Just watch your back(side) around that Dumler guy.

thanks for the heads up, zach. i will remember to gloss over sez, random and guardian. they are fun to play with, but it gets a bit dull after a while, due to the lack of intelligent content from them. again, thanks

How in this new world of hope n change does she expect there would be enough tax dollars to hire the extra cops it would take. Maybe she should consider getting a gun

Am I catching on that the Elk's is for Blacks and the Moose is for whites ?

I am missing something here .

Sometimes it's hard to sort through the racism and hatred, I don't want to discount the issue as it's always part of the equation.

Homo demens always kicks in.

Random, not generally, no. While the two Cville lodges may be racially divided, that is not true of the organization as a whole.

...and no, I don't have a dog, moose, or elk in the fight.
