Atheism Is Patriotic Banner to Fly Over NYC July 4

American Atheists announced today that they will be flying a banner over New York City on July 4th. The banner behind the airplane will read, “Atheism Is Patriotic – atheists.org.”

Dave Silverman, President, said, “In 2011, American Atheists attempted to fly a banner in all fifty states on July 4th, but ran into discrimination from companies that refused to fly the banner. This year we are concentrating on New York City where the most powerful symbol of American freedom resides: the Statue of Liberty.”

Sorry. Even though I'm an Atheist I find this offensive. The truth should speak for itself. People selling BS need flying banners.

If truth simply spoke for itself there might be little need for discussion.

(Maybe there could be compromise - no atheist sky-banners and no 'God' in oaths or on money?:-)

I love airplanes. I look up whenever I hear an engine ... jet or prop doesn't matter. Seeing "the wings of eagles" towing an advert ... I dunno ... sacrilege somehow. It's like atheists and airplanes should be better than that. We sully ourselves.

Atheism isn't about inspiration, it is simply a position. The denial or rejection of a claim that a deity exists.

Now, that doesn't mean there aren't great artists, musicians, architects, etc. that are atheists. You can draw inspiratin from many things, not just religion.

And as for a banner, does theism have a banner?
