New foundations group home took the kids to Ryans restaurant for dinner on Labor Day. They allowed my daughter, who is there because of her running away, to walk away from Ryans with two boys from the same group home. My daughter is now missing. They waited 1/2 an hour to file a report with the sheriff, and an hour to contact me.
They have done nothing else, and today I found out she was with those two boys when they stole a car from a gas station in Anderson. I was told the boys made her get into the car with them.
So now my daughter could be anywhere. She is 16, but has the mentality of a naive 12 yr old and doesn't comprehend things like most people. I would LOVE to know how a place that assured me she would be safe, secure and not able to run away now tell me she ran because she wasn't being watched when out in a public place, the counselor was too busy shoveling food into her face.

Let me first say I am so sorry this happened but it could happen at any facility. Out in public, these type of facilities try not to make the children seem as if they are residents with mental problems. They try to treat them as any other child out with their own parent by letting them go up and get their own food or go to the restroom by themselves. Its promotes individualism and shows the children that they are being trusted and not treated like babies. Would you rather them keep the children locked up like caged animal and hold there hands everywhere they go or make them where a uniform to tell the public they are in a mental institution? Bottom line is,if you want children to grow, you must present them an opportunity to do so. The only reason she went was obviously because she was displaying appropriate behavior at the facility and they felt she could be trusted in public for her to be on an outing in the first place. Its unfortunate this happened, but you cannot blame the facility as I know personally that they take great care and concern for these children. Many if not all of them spend lots of their personal money on these kids. I do pray she is found safe for her and your family's sake. May God be with you all.

At every facility, any funds the children have, they do have limited access to. This is to prevent them from frivolous spending and teach them how to manage money versus spending it just because you have it. He is only upset because he cannot get how MUCH of it he would like to have in my professional opinion.

well i am someone speaking from experience. i was in and out of group homes since i was 14. you say they try to help us not feel like mental patients that is a lie most of the staff throw it up in our faces everyday. new foundations was not the worse group home ive been in i will say that much, but for those who have not actually been in them and felt what it was like basically has no say so, DSS is not a good place for a child to be in for the group homes they put kids in is no better then where they came from.

before you donate any money to this organazition you need to ask if they pressed charges against a former employee that swindled around $600,000.00 from the home or did they turn the other cheek. I have donated for years and when I heard this I decided before they get another dime from me the employee will be prosecuted.

My child was 11 and was touched sexually by some other kids. Usually in shower area. This place is a effin joke. The staff never will answer you other than very vague information. They are a few ok staff but most will curse at these children and yell at them. My child will never be the same. Innocence was stolen and they DO NOT REPORT TO THE LOCAL POLICE!!!!!! Never send your child here

I look and read these comments don't send your child there, my child walked off, my child can't get his money. well as a parent if you were doing your job your child wouldn't be there if the first place yea I said DSS or DJJ you should be thinking about how to help your child and how did they end up at new foundations. What could you as a parent have done to keep your child at home with you and me not having to watch you to make sure they don't fight, steal, or run off too have sex with a child they just met.... So go back and see where you stop keeping up with what your child was doing and who they were hanging out to get them were they are today. Or what did you do to get your child sent off.... So don't blame New Foundations for trying to take car or your child with limited funds. And meme I agree that's a lot of money that went missing and I would like to know too. so who can respond to this....

no he cant have the money because if it gets stolen then that's another problem we have to deal with... he is in a group home and there is not much room for him to buy stuff and not have anywhere to put it... and we will not store food and excess cloths that he does not need...

I use to live in the foundations yes your kids are not supposed to have money they're supposed to give it to whoever is over the pod because some people are thieves in there especially the residents who take things while the stuff while the staff takes the kids outside or take them to lunch. And when you say your day let your kids run away note that I should try to sit there and talk them into coming back trust me I stayed there for all and all for about 4 years they will sit there and help you. In the main building they might be a little tough on your kids but they never never crossed the line the whole time they would actually sit and talk when you needed to talk now independent living is completely different and so is male pathways. And they do not wait half an hour before calling the cops they give you 5 minutes to turn around and come back after that we go inside and call the cops right away.

I was in New Foundations back when they were AYA. I was never mistreated. The staff at the independent living facility treated me well, and punished me when I did wrong. I was there because I was a foster child and had no other place to go. They did not ever mistreat the kids when I was there. Many of us were very attached to the staff because they were like parents when all the birth parents were really either crap or not around. While it could have been better it was the best placement in all 32 of my placements while in foster care.
