I sincerely hope that they find this young lady alive and well and pray for the best outcome. That said, anyone that knows how the Amish treat their women and their animals fully understands why she left. I have lived near these people for years when I lived in Michigan. Take a good look at their horses and while they are not starved, they are on the verge of being too thin. I understand they work them hard but a well fed horse works better. I have never witnessed violence against the women but the Iraqi women may have it good in comparison. They say virtually nothing in public. Observe it yourself some time.

I not sure if they send them off at that or not! What I do know is the girl cannot make contact with her family without going there (No Phones)
I'm sure if she ran away, she most certianly changed her clothes to blend in anyway. I watched that Amish movie they had a Family Video about their teens stepping out to see if the grass is greener on the other side. The movie claims they can only do this one time, if they try again they are banished for good!
Hope she is ok and enjoys the little bit of our lifestyle she may get!

I hope she is fine and is returned soon. The Amish are preyed upon by many low-life scumbags because they seem like easy targets.

Who said she was abused? Just because they live differently than most of us do, it doesn't constitute abuse. They have different beliefs than we do, but that doesn't make them wrong. They have a right to live how they choose.
I hope she returns safely, and that the man she is with gets caught and punished.

Do not generalize. Most Amish are good people that would NEVER hurt anyone physically or with words like some of you all are. Alot of us could learn how to treat each other and about forgiveness from the Amish.

That is what is going through my mind too.

Some antisocial personality/serial killer type who thinks he's clever. Someone who has dealt with the amish community on some level. Perhaps a truck driver or delivery person who has had multiple contacts and has planned well based on gathered intelligence.

Pray for this child and her family.

Well, since the Amish don't believe in the Internet, I am guessing that she must've used the postal service or must've talked in some sort of building.

I have extreme respect for the Amish. If more of society today held the values that the Amish do the world would not be in the state that it is in.

A teen is a teen, I am sure even Amish ones run away. And they are not forced to remain Amish anyway. Around her age (or slightly older) they are allowed to experience the 'outside' world before they commit themselves to the church and remaining Amish. It is called 'rumspringa', a German word meaning run-around. They are allowed to wear 'English' clothing and some even drive cars. It is very likely that she could have had access to a computer at this stage in her life. Whether or not this is how she met this man, who knows.

I hope they find her safe and sound!

We live near this amish family, and have done business with them. They are good people. I have not seen anyone say anything about the English man that talked the kid into leaving. I hope he is found and prosecuted to the fullest. Just remember it could have been any one of our kids!!

I grew up Amish and left (for various reasons) when I was almost 40 years old. I know that at 15 I was very naive and gullible and am assuming she may be too. My guess is that this older man talked her into taking off with him by painting a rosy picture of life with him, and she has no idea that he is probably a pervert who only wants to take advantage of her.

Wow.

I hope the skeevy SOB that convinced her to leave is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
