Representative Jacob Hoogendyk, Jr. introduced House Bills 4855 & 4856 in May of this year. These two bills would change the way Education is funded in Michigan and would result in Real Savings for both Students and Taxpayers. Of coarse the Democrats in the House do not want either of these bills to go anywhere. They would save money but would upset their special interest groups. Please read the bills and you decide. Then let Representative Hoogendyk and your Representative know that you support this legislation and would like to see it passed. Could be BIG SAVINGS for both Students and Taxpayers!

This is so ridiculous! I take 18 credit hours a semester which has raised my tuition nearly $2,000 a semester! Where does all this money go to? Because I haven't seen any benefits come from my tuition! And stop pulling this "it's necessary because our normal expences have increased" bull crap! They haven't increased by $2,000 a student! Here's an idea, get rid of the teacher unions! Because of the unions professors are 10 yeared, which is also bull crap because that means us students, who are there to learn by the way, are stuck paying the professors who are horrible at teaching, more and more each year, and they can't be fired because the union and 10 year contract protects them from it. Our professors are way over paid for what the majority of them do, along with our administrators. I say pay them solely on job performance, and maybe we'll get some of our moneys worth, and take what they save and build us a parking garage or something else desperately needed. And now for my criticism on our state government: We have the worst economy in the 50 states! We have the highest unemployement rates, companies and factories are leaving left and right (that's a whole different union issue I'll leave alone), along with people, and our governer who is an attorney by the way, who has no idea how to manage finances on a huge scale, keeps trying to get rid of our huge deficit by cutting funding left and right and raising taxes. Did she ever think that maybe the bigger problem is to get our state back on track economically, meaning keep on funding and stop raising taxes until we pull out of this thing, then go back to trying to pay our debt off once our unemployment rate is normal, and our economy is back in good standing. Oh and I believe she and her comrades voted themselves nice pay raises not too long ago... hmmm. Personally I can't stand our state government, I don't understand how other states can manage theirs without this many problems, yet ours can't. For those who are going to attack me on this, I voted for a change, but he wasn't elected. So I'm leaving, not that I have a choice, because I won't be able to find a steady job after I graduate next year, which saddens me, because I really love West Michigan.
