I have heard that a lot of kids are leaving MICS to go back to their schools. Anyone else heard this?

I think some have. Not sure why. It needs to be understood MICS is a new school and there will be issues that arise. It takes the school with parental support to make it work.If parents want to put their children back into the joke of what we call our schools in this area then let them. When we had the one issue arise the Head of School was very supportive. She treated us as parents with respect as well as our child. The teachers welcome open communication and strive to create a learning environment to meet all students needs. Ive received more response from the teachers there in the first month of school this year than all the years combined between both of my children. My child is finally learning. Public school says they want parental involvement but where we have been did not welcome it. It was always one sided in their favor and just plain pitiful. I know we have good teachers in our schools but they are only going to be able to do what they need or want to do with the support of a competent administrator. I encourage all parents to explore options at MICS. If the need for unhappy parents was not there then over 800 of them would not have applied for the lottery.

Children had to be entered into a lottery system and chosen from all to go to MICS. To me this means you have a parent out there that cares so much for their child they want him/her to have the best education possible.
Before enrolling my daughter in the lottery I had the constant worry of what would happen in first grade when their was not enough help around to assist children one on one if they were accelerated students or if they were slow and being left behind. She was bored in Kindergarten and that was with stimulation.
I have not regretted one moment of her winning this lottery and going to MICS as well as her cousin who I put in the lottery as well. I think the travel distance may be putting some parents off as their is no bus transportation and they may having to put their kids back in public school.
For me, 30 miles in the am and then the pm can be rough, but it is well worth it. I am looking forward to hte time I came help in the school as well. Parental help is always welcome! The teachers are wonderful and REALLY care for the children.

Also, because you get public funding, the lottery should be illegal. Anyone should be able to get in, if it is truly a public school.
