Ive seen first hand why gas is so high. And none of your amateur opinions are close. Its not a political party thing or a conspiracy. The answer is right in front of your faces.

Right now BP Amoco has 15000 contractors in whiting indiana right now. Most are just standing there. They also have 2800 employees basically doing the same. $12 million a day in payroll alone. One facility. 30 cranes on site. 2 of the rigs cost $25,000 a day to rent (running or not). That facility has piss poor time and money management. That is just one facility. And by far not even close to the biggest. They waste this money because we as a society are going to pay it. The only thing we are going to do is bitch about. The oil company owns the world because we allow it to happen. Not the government, not obama or romney, not king saudi arabia. We, the American people, allow it to happen.

If people stopped buying gas guzzlers, car pooled, and conserved gas, I bet the price would drop. It would take the entire country to be more conservative with gas to get the message to the oil companies. The high price of gas and greedy oil companies is what has ruined this country.

My opinion was not amateur. Never is.

In fact the original poster asked why it jumped this week. Your scenario doesn't describe why it jumped but why it is high.

Again (last week) a pipeline broke & and a rig caught fire. This is why it increased.

With the money bp and ashland exxon have, 1 busted pipeline would not even cause a dent. They handed money out hand over fist after the gulf spill. But yet they still have 4 projects in whiting going on totalling $400 million. They do it because they can

Truth,

People have stopped buying guzzlers, more are car pooling, and I don't know one person that has not cut back on driving. Gasoline consumption peaked in this country in 2006. It has been declining for 6 years despite more drivers on the road. Why? Because of the things you mentioned. Yet gas has gone up. Crude stockpiles are at their highest levels in 20+ years. Domestic US oil production is the highest it has been since "Peak" US Production 35 years ago. When do YOU expect it to go down? This is a combination between government, corporate, and speculative (investors) greed nothing more. Look at the hard numbers and data.

supply versus demand...economics 101.

Supply is restricted because Obama and the Dims won't allow oil exploration and development of existing resources. Second, supply is limited because refineries are not opened or expanded to meet demand. Supply is restricted because of pipeline issues. Supply is limited because of unstable foreign governments.

You want lower prices, expand supply or lower demand.
basic economics.
