Elk nor grey wolves are native to Idaho. why introduce the canadain grey wolf that is twice the size of the rocky mountain wolf that was native?
The last report I saw in the paper stated there was closer to 1500 wolves in idaho not 600 like stated above.
If you are going to defend the wolves and say how bad the people are that are trying to protect there livestock please try to get to know what you are protecting.

this sigh needs some work but I loved what they got.

Great comments.

If the tree huggers want wolves back so bad lets plant them right in the middle of the city so they can really feel what its like to have wolves endanger them and their families.

Do these guys just have nothing else to do with their time? Try doing something useful.

Only uneducated morons who know nothing about wolves say the most irritating things. Wolves don't stalk humans, they are more afraid of us than we are of them. I have studies them!! They have been around a hell of a lot longer than any of you stinking humans. The only species on this planet that is killing it is humans!! So why don't all you rednecks go crawl back in your holes where you came from and let the real people take care of the planet the way GOD intended it to be and yes...Dog spelled backwards is GOD!

I say again........."I think it's funny how those people who write in support of the wolf, citing how they are lovely mystical creatures, live hundreds of miles from the nearest one."

If you're an Idahoan, I'll bet my my next paycheck you're from the city. Things are a bit different out here in the sticks. Wolves aren't just dangerous to one's personal safety, it's also a matter of local economy. The bottom line is that outfitters here (good, hardworking folks) can no longer rely on booked hunts, because the word is out that wolves have thinned the elk herds to the point where they will most likely not fill their tag. As a result, those hunters go to other states that were smart enough to keep the wolves out. This, combined with the sawmills closing up has been devastating to communities throughtout the Northwest.

I'm a retired Army Sergeant First Class and veteran of Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom 2003. That makes me more than grown up in the minds of most reasonable people. So you can "at ease" that crap, Junior.

When you cite a reference, you may want to refer to one that is credible. ANYONE can write for Wikipedia. The so-called research that you read was probably written by someone who likes the wolf as much as you do, and not by someone who did so objectively.

And last, but certainly not least, why are you seemingly siding against the politicians who approved the reintroduction of your beloved wolf? Seems pretty silly to me.........

Write back when you can make some sense. I don't expect to hear from you at all.

that is exactly why wolves are being killed. people are afraid and what they are afraid of they kill. if you still believe in red riding hood you need to grow up. do some real research like with wikipedia and wolf experts. not politicians and then make up your mind.<quoted text>

You're not the only one who's been to Iraq....I've probably got more time in country than what you have in service. I think you should be kicked out of Idaho because it's a point of view that is inconsistent with the majority. You apparantly don't care how it affects the inhabitants of the state that you clain to love so much.

Go to California with the other wolf lovers. Hopefully they will be reintroduced there too.

BWWWWWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Wolves never have been, and never will be, eradicated by hunters. When they did so after the turn of the century, it was with poison.......and all animal species suffered because of it.

Thanks for the laugh!

I know how people are here with murdering animals, something you must know nothing about Denise. I hope you never see a majestic white owl with a six foot wingspan shot dead while it was roosting in a tree.
Then maybe you'd know what you are talking about.

Re-introducing wolves was a very poorly and understudied project. 1.) The wolves that they introduced are from Canadian stock. This means that like most all northern critters their body mass is considerably larger. Think about it, in their native lands these wolves are designed and adapted to take down prey 100's of lbs larger than any of the smaller elk, moose, and deer, in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. 2.) Wolves have a very broad range. They are known to travel over 500miles and do, in search of their own territories to create new packs. It is absolutely a bad call to think that they would stay deep in the roadless areas of Idaho or anywhere else they have been dropped off. 3.) Now there's a problem...they are doing just as stated in problem 3! Sorry folks just wait till they snatch up your pets, kids, and very easily you if you end up in the wrong spot, at the time a pack decides that you are in his home. As numbers increase they come to our backyards like everything else without not enough habitat. They want to survive just as much as you. 4.) Now the only solution is to kill them to control them? Very sad, but true solution. Problem caused by red necks...problem solved by red necks! Relocation? Where are they going to relocate to? Back to Canada or Alaska? Sorry, but habitat loss is killing off top tier predators. Why? Because the prey is suffering habitat loss. Caribou migrations? Sianora! Other prey? If their still in number try 30yrs from now where's the habitat going to be? Subdivisions, logged away, drilled for petroleum, mining, and natural gas. Too Sad...very sad...get a brain folks! Stop playing games with the environment. Thank Bush Era BS. It's the only one we have, and it's the only one the animals have too. It is unfair that we disregard the future for some $$$ in the now. Stop under educating biologists... trust me they learn jack about wildlife in most schools. How many have dedicated their life since they could walk and talk to studying fish and wildlife...probably less than 10% that graduate with a degree. Any Joe without brain damage can read a book take a test, pass, and forget, But hands on experience goes way further. Judges and governors? They know how to sentence and spend tax dollars(failboat)! Not make biological decisions!

The foreign wolves could eventually die out from over predation on Idaho elk.

Our wise government introduced the Mackenzie Valley subspecies not the native (Great Plains) wolves. But the biggest mistake.....there was no reintroduction of the Bison, which was the primary prey of the native Grteat Plains subspecies of wolf.

After the monumental kill off of Bison by the white men, the wolfs primary prey became the elk. In 1918, there were only 640 head of elk left in Idaho, primarily due to predation of wolves. Soon, the native wolves numbers fell drastically because of low numbers of ungulate prey.

The elk later made a comeback, with very low wolf numbers in the state, and numbered well over 100,000 elk (in Idaho) in the early 1990's. Those numbers are steadily decreasing since introduction of the Canadian subspecies of wolf.

Forget the experts who preach, posture and prattle about "balanced ecosystems". When the elk numbers get low the wolf will again disappear. Hopefully, we will have a few elk left to rebuild the herd over decades.
