Ive gotten hamburger from walmart for years and lately every roll I get smells like cow piles!! Whats going on with the hamburger and who else has noticed??
Wal-Mart as well as most other food stores get their beef not only from the US, but from Mexico and Canada too.
It's untold what we are actually eating.
I buy my meat from Durham's Grocery and although they have a sign in their store stating the above, I feel more comfortable buying it there.

The pink slime was what i thought at first. Then I realized they said that it wouldnt change the smell or taste so I read up on it. The things I found wasnt very helpful. Stuff about being grain fed or grass fed. Walmart said they havent had any calls about their Ground Beef but they wouldnt tell me if they did. Ive never had this problem before. It smells horrible!!!! Cooked or uncooked!

Call your County Agriculture Extension office and ask if they could test it.
Your local health department could help you also.
If they don't help call the Governor's office, tell them and ask them what to do.
They will put you in contact with the proper people.

I would say take it back to Wal Mart and get your money back, but you really should find out why it smells like cow manure.

I've noticed lately the burger I get from Durhams will lose it's color over night and turn brown but I trust it more than wal-marts.

I just threw out my entire ziti casserole, after eating around the hamburger. The Walmart ground beef roll I used, smelled funny frying, and tasted nasty. The same thing happened about a 3 weeks ago with a meat loaf made with a larger hamburger roll. Purchased the rolls 2 seperate times. I couldn't tell what the problem was then, because I used several ingredients, but now I know! I'm never buying Walmart hamburger again! Incidently, I used to always purchase Walmart meat, and never before had an issue. The only reason I found this thread is because I did a yahoo search to see if anyone else had issues.

Good question. I'd like to know myself. Lex18 is really good at investigating complaints like this. I don't know if anyone has contacted them yet. But if it's a legit claim and you can back it up, they'll go for it.

Personally, we've about given up on beef totally. Can't seem to stomach the smell from it no matter where it's bought. Get it in the frying pan and it almost gags you, something just isn't right. Even making chili, something smelled nasty when it cooked down.(Not just Walmart, but other store brands too). I don't understand what's going on either.. I'd rather just do without than waste my money. We've been eating a lot more fish and veggie dishes these days.

I turned it in to the health dept because they said they could get it to the right people. That testing food isnt their job but knew the smell was bad. Ya know i never even thought about calling the news! I should have that way it could have been brung to the food and safety boards attention and even customers. I know now what to do next time. Thanks
