This is so sad... Just because a few students have a "problem" with this they ruin it for the rest..... I believe in GOD. Wake up students and parents! Just as the other 6 kids... Your opinion matters too!!!!

I think the six students should have their graduation and let all the others protest the graduation and have their own! School graduations are boring anyway. Call names and let them cross the stage at a big church and have prayer and all that stuff. Take a stand Christians before we are totally silenced.

this completely wrong.... prayer should be allowed... i graduated in 92 and we had prayer.my children will pray regardless of what any school official says... the school the law nobody has a right to stop our children from praying or talking about god...we as a community should take a stand against this hatred of god...

Pray all you want during the ceremony. Its just that they are not going to set apart a time in the program and make everyone pray. Don't blame Godbey, Hatter or the board on this one. Every school district that has fought these type of complaints over the last several years has lost and spent lots of money in the legal battles. The district cant afford to fight this even if they wanted too, and why would they want to when they know they'd lose. If you are really that passionate, Get your church to take a collection to fight the ACLU, Have your Church sponsor a separate ceremony for the graduates that they can opt to attend. The times have changed, accept it.

When i was in high school i was the president of the senior class, our senior class sponsor told us before graduation ceromony that we were not to toss our caps in the air because she did not like it. Ok, that did not sit well with the class or I, so before going out on the floor i started spreading the word we were going to do it anyways....what can they do....what did they do? NOTHING!!!!

So Lincoln Co seniors here's your chance!!

When you walk up to the stage for your diploma and after accepting it and the hand shake from whoever, walk off and stop, bow your head for 6 seconds in silent prayer (6 sec for the 6 protestors) raise your head proud, smile and walk off stage!!

GO PATRIOTS!!!

Christians need to stand up for their RIGHTS, boycott the graduation, have a ceremony at a church, paid for by TRUE CHRISTANS! Let the school foot the bill for the HELLBOUND ATHEISTS. And the cost to mail the diplomas, TAKE A STAND FOR JESUS, dont bend to a corrupt dept of SO CALLED education. And also if your child goes to public school, im sorry for them, they teach that we evolved from monkeys"!! How are all the christian teachers gonna explain that on judgement day??? CHRISTIANS NATIONWIDE NEED TO GET A BACKBONE AND UNITE!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO, he caved like a typical government lap dog.
Many many years of tradition is gone on his watch.
Total submission in his press statement.

That's what's on him.
When our leaders cave so quickly it is disheartening.
Better to give ear plugs to the tender little ears so their ears wouldn't bleed rather than give in so easily.

Fight a law suit over a student praying ? Ignore it.

Spineless leaders !
Time for the church to abandon the public school system. It's way to corrupt to be salvaged. My boys have never stepped foot in a government school class room.
We make the scarfice to put them in a private Christian school.

If Tim had publicly stood his ground the people would have rallied around him.

He's worried about his job. He would have seen many opportunities open, lots of places for men of courage.

Unfortunate for him.

My favorite bumper sticker of all time said "As long as there are tests, there will always be prayer in school!" :) I would be nice for the kids that want to participate (all but the 6) to put letters on their caps (in order of where they sit) that would spell out a prayer.

Idea

For the seniors, I heard a great idea. Let one of the senior speakers lead the class in the Lord's prayer. It doesnt have to be on the program. Or let whomever is speaking be cued to let someone brave in the student section stand up and lead his peers as they all cite the Lord's Prayer. I wish I was one of the students, I would gladly lead the way!

My opinion is, karma will get the the ones trying to keep the prayer out of the school! One day sooner or later they will be wanting to pray to GOD to help out in some situation! May GOD bless your soul's!

Well let me just say that's a shame that sick stupid kids parents that don't believe in god and pray have u forgotten who put you here and who may earth. If they don't like it go some where else get your diploma. The school system has been a disgrace on this it's like this are for god or the devil. The Tim Godbey I know is a Christian stand up for our children our future one leaders. This is man made from the devil gods ppl need to stand up for him

Whoops, if you had some REAL education, instead of false lie filled public education, or some trashy cartoon on tv maybe then YOU would have a clue about reality. Reality is GOD is real, hes in control, and created EVEN YOU in his image. Lot better than monkeys or pond scum dont you think?

So if God is in control, you shouldn't be so upset that she is allowing LCHS to drop prayer from its graduation ceremony. Its part of her master plan. Maybe its sign that the Christians of Lincoln County should do something to show their faith. Fine, ok, but don't be so mad about it. Be joyful in your work for the Lord.

God created the pond scum too, and it was good, is good. I just don't think humans are all that much different or better than the pond scum, from a theological point of view.

Humans have eternal souls, pond scum and monkeys don't. And yes maybe God is using this to see if LC will make a stand against 6 little atheists! Isn't majority rule! Come on ppl, stand for YOUR rights, be a warrior for Jesus!!

I honestly think those students are simply practicing, as you called it, the actions of their parents. Funny thing it is, what that need for a little notoriety can do to a person. Everyone longs for their fifteen minutes of fame.

Hope they're proud of themselves for this. I doubt that will be the permanent case and point though as they travel down lifes road.

One day a bad thing is going to happen to one of more of them. That's what life does, it throws you curve balls. And when it does, suddenly people who are nonbelievers tend to want to believe there just might be a supreme being after all. Stranger still? While facing that dire situation, so many times you'll see that they'll start to pray. You know, just in case? I've seen this happen too many times already what with being in the health care field and all.
