Seriously, where did THIS come from!?

People walking around with these stupid hair doos with odd colors, and the EXTREMELY tight jeans? If you ask me, it looks pretty gay.

Also, no, your not "cool" for liking these boring, generic Screamo bands. And no, they're not "METAL"... Neither is Slipknot, Korn, Disturbed, System of a Down, etc. etc.

Anyone else at School think this new fad is ridiculous?

And how exactly can you "Express Yourself" by following some trendy fad just to look cool?

To me, that's Expressing that you are scared of who you really are, and try to fit in with a fad to get people to like you.

Self confidence issues perhaps?

Actually, no it's not! First off I'm thirty years old, I have already been there and done that! You seem to be the one with an issue here. How children express themselves are based on what they have experienced in their life. Granted some kids express themselves for attention, which goes to prove my point, they are not getting the attention that they feel they should be getting from the people that they are around the most.
Expressing themselves in ways you may not agree with or approve of does not mean you are trying to hide who you really are! Instead of being so quick to judge others for there freedom of expression, try embracing them! Be happy that we as AMERICAN'S have the right and the freedom to do what we wish

The only two things in that list that aren't Metal are: Drowning Pool and Theory of a Deadman

Motley Crue is pretty good Hair Metal... And Godsmack is some decent Groove Metal.

Listen to what you want. I can't change that! I just can't stand people calling stuff like "Slipknot, Disturbed, Korn, System of a Down", etc. etc. Metal. Because it's NOT.

You really think Drowning Pool isn't metal? Let The Bodies Hit The Floor, Sinner.... Have you listened to Drowning Pool? Have you not looked at them or watched thier videos? That's Metal. Now I do agree Theory Of A Deadman not so much metal but they are a pretty good group.

i understand wanting 2 fit in and b part of a crowed but those jeans just look painful to me.and having peircings all over ur body what happens when u go 4 a job interview u gonna wear those tight jeans and that bright pink hair?my daughter said it was dress code that they couldnt wear holes in jeans this year, well id rather my child have a few holes in their jeans than to have on a pair so tight that theirs nothing left for the imagination!

Ok, I'm 50 something and hear my nephews talking about "emo" (not negatively...just describing a friend at school). What is "emo"? Figure we old people should be informed!

The word was coined to be short for emotional.

It seems to me, it's just a bunch of kids who wear horrid clothing and listening to horrible screamo bands.

I'm not sure where all these screamo bands came from but I seriously wish they'd just burn already. This is an emo kid's favorite screamo song:

"Raawrarawrawawwwwwwrrrr AHHHHHHHH!!!"

And this is their most hated song:

"Raawrarawrawawwwwwwrrrr AHHHHHHHH!!!"

They all sound exactly the same.

Oh, and the god awful movie, Twilight, didn't help things at all. It caused things to multiply so fast... How can so many people like such a horrible movie?

lol...Well I thank you for the help.
So, these "emo" kids...are they extremely emotional or just have really poor taste in music and movies?(Trying to figure out how the "emo" label fits with tight clothes, pink hair and bad tastes. Maybe I should give up trying to actually understand teen slang.)

Idk where it started but most people turn to it because either a bf/gf broke up with them and they use it to express sadness/depression (like a puss) or because they think it makes them look cool. Bands like 'Bullet For My Valentine' and the twilight sh1t influences it. If ya ask me both emo and scene kids need to grow up, they'll look back one day and think what a fag they was.

@ My opinion: Everything you said in that post is 110% true.

And @Mr RainMaker: I really cannot take you seriously if you think Drowning Pool is "Metal".

They are Nu-Metal. Which is Rap Rock/Hard Rock with a SMALL INFLUENCE of Metal.

Just a small influence... And don't say: "Lyke OMG!!!111one it has teh wurd "Metal" in it, so it HAS to be troo BROOTAL Metal!!!11111one!1eleven. "

I don't think the "emo" thing is something a lot of teens see themselves as, but rather they just like the clothes and the look, and people tend to put those labels on them because of it. It reminds me so much of the 80's. Sure some kids look a bit goofy sometimes, but haven't they always seemed rather odd to the older generations? I remember spiked hair, big hair, and when all the boys had "rat-tails". The tight skinny jeans were also pretty common in the 80's. Bring the big hair back and there you have it. Why do we always assume that a teen is emotionally disturbed just because they want to act their age? They will leave those teenager years behind soon enough and chances are, when they go to their high school reunions, they won't see many tight jeans or pink hair, of course, you'll have a few who just can't let go and will want to be a teenager forever, lol.

<quoted text>
It's not really that they do rap, it's that rap is implemented in their music. A lot of people have started calling it "rap-rock". Other bands that do things like this are Linkin Park, Saliva and those types. I do like the band, though, along with the two that I mentioned.
