Original Stanfield store

This was all of Stanfield sometime before 1944. I was five and visiting my aunt and uncle who owned the store. It was just a crossroad stop for migrant farm workers. When the post office approached them about opening a post office in the back of the store to serve the field workers they needed a name to call the "town", so they gave them their last name, Wittenburg, but it was too close to Wickenburg and would have been confusing. So they called it "Stanfield" after the man they bought it from. It was originally much smaller than shown here.

I started in standfield in 1955 at Max's Potters, Casa Grande Dust and Spray whih later became United Farm Service. John Walton son of Walmarts Sam Walton purchsed the Company after he was fired by Dick Fye for hitting to many power lines.

Old stanfield names Cannons, Kortens, Hollidays, Smiths, Fuqauy, Louis Jhonston, John Wayne, Miller, Sturgon, Blackhead, Fugerson and many others.

I went to Stanfield in 1950, I knew Max Potter, I knew Louis Johnson, his son Butch Johnson, I also worked for John Wayne in later years just west of Stanfield. My children attended Stanfield school.
My wife went to Maricopa school in 1950 when she was just a young girl, only a grade school then.
I knew lots of farmers and ranchers in Pinal County.
