Stamford may opt for half-time principal

Faced with chopping the $1.6 million budget for Stamford Elementary School by 4.5 percent, or $72,000, the School Directors are considering making the principal's job half-time, among other cuts. Full Story

to Stamford Townee, you are correct as am I: former selectman Bill Morehouse and some of the current school directors went after grant money to put in sidewalks and offered ideas for walking and cycling to school four years ago. My point is people are now implying that Choquette is in some way neglecting child safety when the words come from her lips but when the others delivered the same proposals and even found ways to fund it four years ago, they were not villified. The name-calling in this town has many supporters on all sides of this issue.
Old Goat, my last reply was in response to your statement, and I quote "Also, NO ONE at that meeting proposed cutting all transportation." That was simply not true, as principal Choquette did put that on the table as a consideration. I can't speak to what Mr. Morehouse or any other board member may have said or done in the past as I did not attend those meetings. I think we are still missing the fact that even if every square inch of Stamford roads were to be outfitted with sidewalks, not every child in town could walk or bike to school because of distance, weather, terrain, and yes, there's always the possibility of kidnapping. I am not attempting to "villify" anyone, just stating the facts. I really wish we could get away from the mentality that there are sides to be taken and some one is either all right or all wrong. No one is lily white. We need to listen to all sides and have the strength of character to agree with someone who is making sense whether he/she is someone we like or not.

Lets not forget when you all get on here and bitch and complain. Teachers are there to teach your children not raise them. Teach your kids respect at home and they will learn more at school. Teachers work way to hard to get caught up in the middle of a bunch of bull. Think of your children when you decide to make cuts that will be sure to change the value of the money you spend and the education they receive.

Sorry to disappoint you,but I was not trying to change anything yet. The point I was trying to make to Stamford, when I read they had discussed possible high school designation, was to make sure they had a clarification on the funding and reimbursements for Tech Training as the present statutes and legislation is NOT clear.
CHOICE is not bad, but before a town makes any judgements or votes they should know all the financial ramifications of such a vote.

Did you actually read what the guy (or gal) wrote? All they did was provide information about one alternative option-never once demeaning anyone or insisting on a particular path residents should take. I, for one, appreciate intelligent, articulate responses.

Money is too tight for teachers to hide behind the "work to hard" banner. Every company is cutting back and forcing employees to do more for less. So if a teacher feels they are being worked to hard, they are welcome to look elsewhere for employment - there are 1000's people waiting to get their chance.

Making cuts wasn't so much a choice as it was a necessity, I'm sure the town's people would love to double the teacher's pay but the money just isn't there. Every aspect of life suffers in economic times like these, not just education. It is the smart teacher who will realize the cyclical nature of the situation and make compromises now that will only benefit them in the long wrong.

You want to truth. How about the truth of affairs taking place in the school system??? How about displinary actions taken against the principal and mysteriously swept under the rug?? How about punshiments suppose to be given to students that were never handed down because she gets to personal with some of the parents in this town???? Would you like me to go on???
No you should NOT go on and you should never have started!!! Everyone has personal lives; whether you agree or not with the choices it is NOT your business unless your child was affected.(My guess the only info your child knows was directly received from talk inside the home) Some parents need to let their children fight their own battles! No wonder your kids are wimps stay out of it!

Disciplinary actions against anyone employed is NOT public knowlege and never will be! Relax... find something else to put all your energies into!

People will fall all over themselves to move here after reading all this trash... do't ya think?!?!?!

Please people, I beg you, do your research before you get on here and go crazy with your comments. Never once has any of these teachers complained about a possible pay freeze. They have simply voiced their opinions (when asked) concerning the possible avenues being taken to meet these budget cut. They know better than anyone how these changes would affect the overall school environment (which clearly could use a little shake up).

Your reading it are you not. You want to talk about church. How about the one person who is supposed to be a role model for our school, who is a sunday school teacher, created one of the biggest sins of all????? At this point I don't even want to live in this town. Highly disappointed.

Families are affected when someone continuosly lies to the public. Rather raise a wimp than be someone who has to embarass people publicly to make themselves feel warm and fuzzy. Problem is there are never any actions taken when it is needed. You suck the energy out of me!!!!!!!!!!

seems to all the people that are writing on this stupid blog need to find other things to do. Go out and take a walk and look around don't sit at your computer all day thinking of ways to put people down without using that persons name. This should be a good way to talk about the budgets issues not peoples personal life outside of the work place. I'm glad I live in northern Vermont and not down where you have nothing better to do than sit home and try to hurt people with your words. Get out of your own reality and join the real world. My pastor once said that the internet is only trouble waiting to happen and when i stumbled upon this blog I see what he was talking about. you have no way of proving all these things that you write about others on the web. I guess if it makes you feel good inside go ahead and keep doing it. Oh and by the way way when you die tell satin you were doing his works for him "work at home job" you people make me sick.

I didn't say the teachers complained about a pay freeze. I was responding to the "former teacher" who said that teachers already work to hard. I have done nothing but urge and try to give examples of the ways each side could give a little.

Fair enough, but you are on a blog about Stamford School making comments about teachers. It seems like a logical assumption for readers to make.

I am writing using my real first name. I'm pretty sure that everyone to whom I am speaking knows who I am. I am writing this in effort to beg everyone, on every side, to please, please, stop this right now. People are being hurt and slandered. Whether some of those things are true or not, we all have done things we would not want broadcasted on transcript.com , haven't we? I know I have. Others are being blamed for things they did not write. Most of all, our children are being hurt in the process. They have to go to school together, and some of them probably wonder, "we like each other, why can't our parents get along?" What kind of example are we setting for them? I will be the first to say I am guilty of not handling things the way I should. We might not all always agree, but we can start treating each other with respect and learn from each other. I know we have some common ground. Let's start finding it. If we have something worthwhile to say, we can go to the school board meetings and have our complaints, suggestions, and encouragements heard. And we can listen to others and gain some understanding of where they are coming from. This may seem easier said than done, but I am willing to try. Are you? Finally, if you insist on writing on here, I'd like to challenge everyone to post your real first name. Or, at the very least, stop changing your screen name. Thank you for listening.
