Do I understand this right? They owe over $17,000 in back rent and were ordered by the court to leave by August 14th, but the landlord has to pay not only the marshall fees for executing the eviction, but the cost to move their stuff? That's just plain wrong. They should be made to move, and if they don't move their stuff, he should be able to take it to the dump or give it away. If this is the law, which it probably is, it needs to be changed.

What a bunch of losers these people are. No one lives for free. Good luck to the landlord.

He should be able to (now) have them arrested for trespassing and forcibly removed from HIS home and change the locks.

He can legally store their belongings in the home for the mandated 30 days, charge them storage fees and if they can't/don't pay, have a tag sale and dispose of everything.

Then he should sue them in small claims (small filing fee) and get a garnishment against their wages. He can do it without a lawyer.

He should do the right and legal way pay the money and evict them if not don't be a landlord. sell the house you bum. This landlord sounds like a slumlord the way he is acting putting a sign outside his house you are trash.Get a life and sell the house if you cant pay your bills.Don't blame other people that you can't pay for your own house.Hope the bank takes your house so then you know what it feels like.

I can't fathom why people seem to feel the landlord is wrong to want them out.......that fact that they made little attempt to pay something right along and then offer $5000? Do they think thats enough to make him happy? Now that its in the paper, who in their right mind would rent to them?

These sound like 3 generations of people who think they are ENTITLED!!! If they can't pay rent to this landlord, they're not going to pay anywhere. Take out the trash.

The court ordered them to leave months ago. They should respect the judge's order!

If the women are truly destitute, there is a women's shelter and services for low income people. By staying there against the law, they are making their neighbor the one in danger of losing his house.

Welcome to liberal CT. Having once been a landlord myself, and having to take a tenent to housing court, I can tell you that they have all the rights not the landlord. You need deep pockets to be a landlord in this state. If you need the money from the rent to survive, you're in the wrong business.

Sadly that is the way it works. If they move on their own it is at their expense, but if he has to move their stuff he has to pay. The worst part is that the moving is usually done by a company or person known to the Marshal, and the Marshal usually has a storage facility which he will gladly charge to use.

There is a difference between trespassing and squatting in the law. Since they once lived there legally and have never left this is not trespassing in the legal sense. Landlord/Tenant law is civil law, not criminal law, so the police have no role in this matter and certainly not the ability to arrest the tenants.

He has to get them out in order to do anything with their property, and then he would have to store it, and pay for legal notices before selling it at auction. This is actually why many Marshals will handle this end of it, for an additional fee of course.

These women are losers. Can't pay the rent; then get out. If Cheryl Franzetti offered $5000, why isn't she paying rent to begin with?

I am so sick and tired of freeloaders.

The landlord sounds like the antagonist here and I buy his story with a grain of salt. The law does work and he is aware of what the law is. He has failed to follow through in taking appropriate action. Yes there is a fee involved, yet the costs are minimal when compared to the costs of continued occupancy. His mistake was being too reliant on rental income to pay his mortgage. What happened to his personal income. Is he trying to shift blame for his late mortgage from himself to his tenants? Sure they are to blame, at least partially, yet so is the landlord himself.

But I think if you take anything from them, even $15, that means they're "trying" to pay and the clock starts all over again. A judge would say, "Well, they've paid you something, so you can't evict them yet."

He may be a jerk, I have never met him, but even a jerk who owns and rents property is entitled to receive rent from his tenants.

The tenants are wrong here, at least that is what the Judge said. So how is this anyone's fault but theirs?

The landlord, like so many others, uses his rental income to pay for his own residence. I am sure he has other income, he does have a job, but then again I am sure he has other expenses too, like the rest of us.

Is the sign a bot over the top, yeah, but I can understand the feeling of helplessness he must have at this point.

I feel for the landlord, but if he has his girfriend and four of her relatives living with him he should be able to pay his bills.

"We're looking at apartments like crazy," said Jennifer Franzetti. "I don't know what he wants us to do. It's not like we want to stay here."

How long does it take to find an apartment?!
If they don't want to stay there, then go to a hotel! Do the right thing ladies and get out!
