Stallings residents oppose Connector route

There are 3 comments on the Charlotte.com story from Aug 4, 2007, titled Stallings residents oppose Connector route. In it, Charlotte.com reports that:

Residents of some Stallings subdivisions are fighting a segment of the Monroe Connector that may run past their backyard.

The segment, a roughly one-and-a-half mile stretch called Option 18, would arc northeast from U.S. 74 near Stallings Road. The corridor then would hook eastward and thread between Hemby Bridge and Lake Park.

During a packed meeting Thursday with the engineers from the state agency overseeing the project, some of at least 150 residents voiced opposition to the possibility that the massive highway would border their homes. Many attending the meeting at a Stallings church said they recently had moved into one of the eight subdivisions in the area. Some said they only recently found out about the planned road. Read more

It's not right for contractors and lending institutions not to inform home buyers of this bypass and all of the proposed sites. The planning of the Monroe Connector has been going on for at least 7 years or more. I do not have a home in Union County, but I am a property owner and grew up on the Stegall tract which my grandfather, Jodie, purchased in 1940. Option 18 will be very close or going right through mine and my family's land. Our family is not the only old-school family that will be affected. How sad that our roots will be turned into an asphalt highway. I know the traffic is heavy and there needs to be a solution. At the same time, I think a lot of the planning of this project has been handled poorly!

I bought a house in stallings 4 years ago and was not informed of this road being in the works. The house I bought is directly effected so sorry if you don't like it and don;t live here, I live here and despise it. I can definatly feel your pain.

You are right,it has been on the books longer than that,it is the Realators responsibility to know what is going on in the area. They need to stop all delays an build it.School or housing development both knew the road was planed there but was built anyway, bad for the county and town for allowing them to be built before the final route was decided. They really need to go back to 74/Rocky River rd to build the by-pass,there again,Monroe allowed a development to be built in its path.Best thing to do is close there eyes, throw a dart at map, build there,or forget all together, because No one is going to be happy!
