Highways 74 impacts thousands of people, often in very negative ways. The bypass has been in the works for over a decade. Recognizing that it, too, will impact some people I think we have comer to the point where we are ready to get this thing done. Let's get the bypass built!

Here is a better idea, that will save oodles of cash for and heartache for all involved. Get rid of the traffic lights on 74. Without the congestion created by these, there would be no need for the billions our State gov will spend on this. Couple that with a putting a few signs up that read: "Slower Traffic Keep Right" (remember those old common sense that used to also be taught in driver's ed relics), and
they might even be able to lower our gas tax to actually match the level of service we're getting from the DOT Dept of Highway's.

Get rid of the traffic lights? What planet are you living on? What about all the businesses and intersections on 74? What are you going to do with those, just trust that people will make wise decisions and not get in wrecks? You must be smoking something real good to come up with that idiotic idea.

Yes, trust people to be responsible for themselves. It works at stop signs and much better than at most lighted intersections. The traffic lights create the congestion and are put up not to alleviate a problem, but as impulse marketing as a favor to attract people to the businesses. When traffic is allowed to free flow there are more opportunities open to pull out onto these 4 lane highways than there are when all lanes are artificially jammed up on the main road just to supposedly allow parking lots to be exited. Just look at the numbers of cars attempting to flow through on the highway versus the numbers at any giving time trying exit each parking lot. The difference is astronomic, yet we put up signals to stop the free flowing mass of number so that the few in the parking lots "can exit safely" DUH! It's not rocket science. Just simple logic

Yea just look how well traffic flows after Sharon Amity compared to 10 years ago. Now they just need to get rid of those idiotic bus lanes and open that up to traffic as well. It is not hard to put in a turning lane to allow people to pull off in to these businesses. Why does independence need 20 stop lights in only a couple miles in front of the car dealerships? That area is horrible, just like 74 down by Indian Trail. They have freed up traffic near down town "Charlotte", and now we have all the crap traffic, with 500 semi trailers passing through the same intersection every hour. Get rid of the lights add turn lanes and let traffic flow. I can attest that if lights are programmed correctly and can detect cars there, they can be useful. I was furious when they put up that light on Unionville Indian Trail Road, but I spent 10 minutes or more stuck on Younts Road several times before that light, and now there is hardly and stopped traffic either way. The biggest problem is stupid people that drive 30 miles an hour when speed limits are 45 or when people from Lake Park pull out in front of me when I am only a couple hundred feet away. My family lives in a town with no stop lights and only 8 stop signs in Wisconsin. Everybody seems to know how to look both ways and stop and everything. I dont even think people look at on-coming traffic because they have green light which means go.

I'm not going to argue that traffic lights cause congestion, but you seem to frget that the traffic ae located at intersections. Without the traffic lights, cross street traffic from Stallings Rd, Indian Trail Fairview, Rocky River Rd or any of the others will never be able to crossUS 74 or make a left. It isn't rocket science but what you are proposing isn't logical. Your proposal will open US 74 but screw up every single crossroad in the area. You're not fixing the problem, you are moving it!!

I did not forget these. Apparently it is rocket science or you would understand that the free flow of traffic on the main thoroughfare will naturally open plenty of pockets for these side rides to clear. I have personally sat during rush hour in traffic backed up for at least 3 light cycles at every one of the roads you mentioned. Apparently the control lights are as effective as implied by your logic.

The lights on the main throughway are what causes the so called "need" for assistance out for traffic on the side roads in crossing or pulling out on 74. They do this by bunching up the main road traffic into the slower moving groups which would otherwise naturally spread out and flow through.

This flow would be further improved by cleaning up and enforcing the old and now ignores "slower traffic keep right" laws.

You're right. It's not rocket science, but apparently common sense ain't so common anymore.

KISS ? Keep It Simple Stupid. Trafic flow on 74 would inrease if TWO (2 ) simple rules of LOGIC were implemented. 1.Slower traffic keeps to the right, including 4 wheeler's no matter what your ethinic origin. Learn the rules of the road or get a citation. YOU are a danger to yourself & other motorist's. 2. Keep ALL vehicles of more than 4 axles OUT OF THE LEFT LANE! In most parts of the US you will get a citation for violating this common sense logic. NOT HERE. In Monroe they have signs to that affect.Where are they?W ell,on side roads that access 74. How brilliant. The worst offenders are a product of the entitlement generation. Bubba your local yoko oko could care less, and the new wave of rookies we have are worse.

I see one major problem with the ideas shown here. Who is going to read those signs to the illegal aliens and who will teach the lawmakers common sence??

In reallity some one needs to teach the Charmeck eng.that you cant dump a Interstate ramp into 4 lanes for 1/8 of a mile into 2 lanes.Thats like pouring concrete through a funnel.Cloooooooged up!Engineers are like politicions book smart but dumd as a stick with common sense. So dont worry about the road,it will be 30 years before it will be built,Charlotte gets all the road money.

Hwy 218 was built for the same purpose as what they say this bypass is for and it is free to use. Noone uses it. What makes anyone think that they will pay to use this new bypass? Besides, the traffic that we see every AM and Pm is that of people commuting to and from monroe, not BEACH TRAFFIC. BEACH TRAFFIC exists in the summer months and primarily on the weekends. BEACH TRAFFIC is not the problem.

I'm with Monroe Joe on this one. "Red light road" (74) has too many traffic lights, none of which are coordinated in any way whatsoever.

And to add to that, too many times people sit at a red light on 74 while the other side's left turn light is lit, even though no one is there and many times never was so, that shows that the sensor "trip" to trigger the left turn light is also set to activate with every cycle of the light's even without turning traffic present in that lane. They are just not sychronized or coordinated at all.
