Tolls will be on all of Monroe Bypass

There are 18 comments on the Sep 25, 2007, Charlotte.com story titled Tolls will be on all of Monroe Bypass. In it, Charlotte.com reports that:

Drivers will pay tolls to travel all 21 miles of the proposed Monroe Connector/Bypass, a regional planning group has decided.

State officials say placing tolls on the eastern and western halves of the long-delayed road would allow it to be built quicker and cheaper. The project still needs the approval of federal road and environmental authorities.

Specific toll fees haven't been set, an engineer on the project said earlier this month. But the average toll nationally is between 10 and 15 cents per mile. Read more

Never mind the cost. Send me a bill but has anyone even considered the traffic this will cause. I lived on LI NY for most of my life. They made the same mistakes with the tolls. You canot get on or off the Island due to the traffic these tolls create. I am not joking when I it takes over an hour to sit in line to get over the GW Bridge. And Easy Pass just causes accidents as holders and non holders scramble to get into the correct lane to handle their situation. This is a huge mistake. It is watching NY start all over again with an insight as to what will happen.
The NYC area has over 10 million people. Union County has not even 100,000. You are comparing apples with oranges. The toll road will extremely lessen the traffic on US-74. That is the point of it.

The main cause of traffic congestion on US-74 in the area to be bypassed is due to traffic lights. How will putting toll stations causing traffic to stop every few miles on the new road alleviate this problem? It won't.

That is true to an extent, but, all of the county commissioners in Union County call themselves Republicans. Actually I think the party names should be changed from democrat/republican to liberal/conservative respectively as I don't see either side trying to save any of the taxpayers money. It seems to be about let me say and do whatever I have to do to get reelected. Frankly, I don't trust any of the SOB's.

It is this mindset that keeps giving us the same liberals in Raleigh and in local govts throughout the State, while many of those that voted for them continue complain about the results and lay blaim where it doesn't belong.
Two comments: One, the problem is that Raleigh keeps all the money for itself. Look at a map at the highways there in Raleigh, and then look at Charlotte, Asheville, Wilmington... there are hardly any or vastly short on them. Raleigh map looks like spaghetti with highways everywhere.

Second and most important: You are a good laugh at best. Not being prejudice isn't any more liberal than someone prejudiced being conservative. If it ever was, then call me liberal. You are full of hatrid of the North, which is really sad. We can only assume by your remarks that you hate everyone else too. Blacks, Jews, Gays, on and on.
However, when you finish being so hateful, try learning to spell and learn the correct words : It is BLAME, not blaim.

...and you complain on his mindset.

Sure I misspell something occasionally, but at least I comprehend what I read. If you'll notice my other posts in this thread, I wrote against those that are turning this into a "North vs. South" thing. Did you miss that little detail?

Of all the posts in this thread, how could you possibly find hatred and prejudice in mine?

Was it my use of the term "liberal"? If so, get over it. Don't be offended when someone tells the truth. The ones I was talking about in our State gov't openly claim to be liberal. If that word is offensive to you, then perhaps you should find another political ideology to believe in.

The problem as I see it is that the liberals don't actually "believe" in anything. All of the ones that I have met or talked to or read about in my life only say or do in the public's eyes whatever is necessary to get what they want or the votes they need for their own private agenda at the time.

Hey folks, I am a TRUE REBEL> But that aside I am about to lose my house to this thing if they deside to use option 2 instead of 18A. We as a community are going to lose about twenty or more businesses as well. Guess who will end up paying those taxes lost by those bussiness. Everyone in Union county. The only reason I can see for them to even concider option 2 is that option 18A goes by Mayor Paxtons house and she doesn't want to be bothered with it. It is not because of the school, the turnpike athority has said that it will be far enough away from it that there would be no effects to the school. Also if they go with 18A we as a community will not lose but about 2 bussinesses. One of wich has already planned to move but stay in Stallings. Have any of you actualy seen the plans for this option 2? It is a raised roadway with 6 lanes raised for the bypass and 6 lanes at grade for the 74 business as they call it. The road will be raised about 27 feet above grade with an ugly wall going on each side to hold the dirt in. Please keep an eye on the stallings town web site for the next meeting so that you can see the monstrosity that they have planned. It realy sucks..

Mayor Paxton obviously listened to the concerns of 2300+ citizens who voiced their opinions, attended numerous meetings, and signed petitions about the bypass in a logical and timely fashion over a long period of time. What a refreshing concept!

To suggest that Mayor Paxton was only concerned for her own well being shows your own bias and self interest.

I completely agree with you Larry. Option 18A is the best for this town-- you bring up excellent points. We all need to stand together in this town and not allow option 2. I don't want a raised highway especially by our community. I know I will attend future meetings, I hope all of us do!

Are you referring to anonymous posters who agree with you or only those who disagree with you?

Did you have a response to the issues or do just prefer to make personal attacks?

Well people I have tried to stay off this thing and be nice but I have set back and listen to what you have been saying. Yes its time we clean up our county, our cities. Raleigh and of couse Washington. You worry about a toll tax, you had better worry about all taxes. We just saw last night what our country is all about. Money!!!!!!You are going to be faced with the largest tax increases in history. Our money has to come from some place. If the people making over $200,000 is faced with higher taxes to spread the wealth you may not havge jobs to use the toll road. I will believe the road when I see it. They have been promising this road for twenty years. I haven't seen it yet. You had better worry about better things than a toll road. Start worrying if you will have a job.

I am speaking to the "ANONYMOUS" poster with the smelly opinion. The people that support option 2 are idiots. They don't see the lives and livelyhoods that it will ruin. They also don't see that it will cost too much to build. Option 2 will have, in stallings alone, 6 bridges that are very costly to build and maintain, a raised dirt filled wall that the turnpike athority has no idea how to build much less how much it will cost to build, and the turnpike folks will have to buy up buisness property all along 74 and also pay for the businesses that rent or lease those properties. With 18A there are 2 bridges and only 2 or 3 businesses that will be moved. This being said i would hope that the people that make the final decision will use common sence and go with the least costly and least intrusive.

Lets all go live up the mountains in Montana.

Montana does not have sales tax. Was there visiting and to my suprise I didn't have to pay a dime extra when I purchase something. Wow, this is life in Montana.

The air is clean in Montana and no lights on I90, not even a light, you can drive 70+, no tickets.

I'm begining to wonder if this road will ever be built. It has been on the drawing boards for almost 30 years and has been postponed numerous times. Several times the state said they didn't have the money, then there were postponements because of enviornmental issues, then lawsuits. Meanwhile the accidents on 74 continue at a record pace and traffic slows to a crawl. Now the state is in a budget mess because of our criminal former Governor and our band of crooks known as the state legislature wastefully spending our tax money.
