Walmart Abusive Mother

I witnessed a mother so severely verbally abusing her small daughter in the Massaponax Walmart that it still haunts me. Being in front of her in line, I was only listening at first thinking for sure she must be kidding or on the "What Would You Do" TV show. The words became so vile, with threats of harm that I finally turned around to see who she was talking to. There stood a little girl, maybe a small 5 or 4 yr old, medium long dark hair, a very scared sad little face with tucked in body mannerisms. The mother (I assume) was short, long dark hair in a pony tail, plain, no make up, continued the entire lengthy time it took to get through the line verbally attacking and threatening the little girl. I ask the cashier if there was anything she could do. She didn't want to even discuss it. I looked around for an officer..none. I felt helpless knowing if I called 911 the women and child would be gone soon. My question is..which I will investigate further, is what are our options in such cases. How far can or should we go without causing more problems for the child. This women I'm sure physically abuses the child and would have blamed her for sure if I caused a scene. For anyone reading this, if you know a person that could be this women, please do what you can to help the child. My heart is still breaking for this little scared girl.

If you felt it was serious enough to call 911 you should have. Let them investigate.
