If the Seneca Nation wants to be exempt from NY taxes, then they should refuse servics provided by NY state tax payers. I don't feel they should pay taxes on their use of items on nation land, but selling to non indians only hurts the the people who have to suport the services thay enjoy from the state taxpayers.5439

I think that the Native Americans should be able to sell anything they want without taxes, as they are a sovereign nation, and should be treated as such. We do not make any other nation charge taxes for us, so why should we make them do so? On the other hand, if they are not paying into the tax base, then they should not be eligible to receive from it either. No more welfare, no more medicaid/medicare, etc. We do not supply other nations that do not pay taxes these benefits, so why should the Senecas be different? If they want to pull from these benefits, then they should have to pay taxes like the rest of us, if they refuse to pay taxes, then they should not be given the benefits that us tax payers receive.

Before they force native american businesses tocollect taxes on cigerettes the state should not give tax breaks to people making over 1,000,000 dollars, I don't care about paying my share but only if everybody else has to

I hope the state leave the indian nations alone...they are making money and taking care of there own...I can remember when the Senica's were consider low live living in shacks and getting welfare support...many never got past the six grade...They were leasing there property for fishing and hunting camps for a dollar a year.Just look at them now. Many have their own business, Anyone who want to work can get work. In fact many of the gas stations hire non tribel.

should native americans pay ny state tax on the sale of cigarettes and gasoline to non native americans ?- absolutely - and also on the jewelry, clothing, electronic items and everything else they sell to non native americans - they claim they are a soveriegn nation - but they claim sovereignty only when it suits them, ie tax free sales and casinos - if they are truly a sovereign nation why don't they have their own government and why do ny taxpayers pay to pave and maintain their higways, provide polce and fire service, transport and educate their children - also if they are a sovereign nation, why do they pay federal tax on gasoline?

I am not a Native American and I quit smoking so I have no personal interest on this subject, however I do have a question for the NY government. Why is they think thay have the right to break the treaties with the Seneca Nation? I am always shocked by this because the Native Americans had the land taken away by our government obeying these treatines we have with them is the least we can do to make for what our ancestors did.

Break a treaty break a law! NYS gave Native Americans the exempt status and now they want to take it away because they say they need the money to run the state. NYS collects enough taxes from New Yorkers already! Maybe they should take some of that time and money they use trying to collect taxes from reservations and use it for investigating other corrupt hypocrite politicians running NYS.

No way, NYS wasted enough money the last time they tried this. How much was it?$3 million or more wasted. I consider former Gov. Mario Cuomo one of the greatest legal minds in the nation. If he didn't think it was legal to go after them...it probably isn't.

Dont know where you get your information from but senecas do have their own government, police(polce),fire service, transport and educate their own children, they also have their own medical centers. The Cattaraugus Indian Rez has their own Volunteer Fire Company so where do you [provide their fire service? As far as casinos are concerned look at niagara falls getting how many millions for their city and yet you complain they dont give back.

No taxes on Indian lands. The Seneca casino in Buffalo is not on native land and the Senecas and crooked U.S. politicians subverted the agreement that said casinos could be built on reservations and land adjoining it. Buffalo is far, far, far away from Salamanca and Lewiston.
