I saw an object last night, 8/8/11, at approximately 9:30pm, similar to what a few other people have reported. It came from the north and was headed toward Chesterfield airport, south.

To me it looked like a hot air balloon on fire, it was traveling at about the speed of a normal private jet but wasn't making any sound. It came right over my house traveled south and then just winked out. I could see what looked like a normal spotlight beam moving across a few clouds when it was to the south of my location.

I didn't think to make a more explicit report/documentation. I was just like "wow, wtf"

I lived out in the stix in the middle of mo out on three hundred acres, 20 miles from town, and very little light from the town of less than five thousand people was seen. It was very dark except for my power pole. you could see the milky way, the night sky was magnificent and clear, you could see so many constellations. then I moved to o'fallon, mo and living in a metropolis of a hundred thousand people, not to mention being sandwiched by surrounding towns of hundreds of thousands of people, the city lights and everyone elses lights it makes it very hard to view anything in the sky. I can see 3 percent of the stars I normally used to see, depending on how much smog and pollution is in the air. So whatever it was you think you saw, I commend you for gazing up at a polluted atmosphere filled with so much light.
Sitting up on the hill stargazing one night on my farm in northern MO I watched a craft of some sort, it was moving at a very rapid speed in a straight line vertically, then suddenly took off to the left at a horizontal direction and was gone. another time I saw a shooting star in the black night sky and it was so bright and so close I thought I could touch it.
A telescope might help my friend, keep on watching !!!

My friend and I seen it also. It was so uncommon looking that I got on the Internet and searched it. What I saw was really big and kinda like a blue or white looking streak behind it.

I was a young man during the Piedmont Mo UFO flap that lasted several months. I was at work one day when we had a little discussion about it. None of us believed in them and all of us said we'd have to see one to believe it and the discussion ended.

That very night I saw my first one. I lived on a farm 80 miles South of St.Louis. I thought it was a plane but then it did two 90 degree turns in less than a second. Maneuvers like that will tear a normal airplane apart.

The next day at work I told them what I saw. My boss gave me a serious look, paused for a second, and said " Yeah I saw one too." A lady co=worker told us; " I wasn't going to say anything but I saw one too... It made my TV go out for a few seconds.

As the weeks went on folks blamed the UFO sightings on..." Those damn hillbillies and rednecks way out in the sticks and their moonshine." Those who actually saw them had an entirely different idea.

I eventually just kept my mouth shut about the entire thing. By the time it was over I'd lost count of how many I had spotted.

Years upon years later I got my first computer and started researching.

There is a phenomenon called "Earthquake lights" Pressure builds up in fault lines that generate electricity. This can show up in the sky as balls of light or near the ground. The ones near the ground usually come on for about a second or less.

You can see the lights but not have a earthquake happen. It don't necessarily mean one will happen soon. Our farm sat on what's known as the Libertyville Graben which is a part of the New Madrid fault. The last quake there was a small one in the 70's or 80's. No lights were seen before it happened.
