Music was the ONLY part of his life. I should know because I'm his youngest stepkid and he was NOT a family man.
He was warm and mentored the students he taught to become successful musicians but he was not warm toward nor a mentor to myself or those in his stepfamily. For the most part he was pretentious and condescending, spiting those who did not ascend to his level of education or social standing. Again, I should know. I acknowledge those he knew in the public eye will, I'm sure, alwaysperceive him in a favorable light. But it has to be understood that his private life was very, very different from his public life. VERY different.
I pray for my mother and his family back in New England or wherever they reside and I know that, eventually, I have to forgive those who wrong me. But I can't find it in my heart right now. That is REALLY going to take some time. The hurt cuts deep.
