I have a feeling these are long gone and melted down. Metal prices are high. It would be interesting to know how Archbishop John C. Nienstedt really got these items. These are church property, not his won. Just because he was made a bishop, does not give him the authority to bring these with him to his new assignment. They belong to the church, not Archbishop John C. Nienstedt.

This sounds like an inside job. Who out there would know that the Bishop was at Rome at the time? Make a list of all people who knew about the crosses and start to question them. This was not a random robbery. Somebody knew they were then and snatched them.

It seems they are "missing" some stuff right after Archbishop John C. Nienstedt's left. I agree this was an inside job. How else would they know where to go. Have you ever seen the place. They had to break through 3 inche thick glass and NO ONE heard them. Interesting I should saw Watson, very interesting.

Where are the gold and jewels of Babylon?
I thought papists were supposed to pray to "Saint" Anthony of Padua -- the patron "saint" of lost things. He should be able to find the treasures for one of the "princes" of the church.

The poor stole it to put food on their table. The church is offering a reward of $5,000.00 taken from the hardworking individuals who gave the money to help the poor.
Why hang onto gold when the poor need it more. This is the biggest joke I have ever heard. So what if you have gold and nice buildings, the poor need the help of the church more than some silly gold crosses or rings. Get real, as you can't take it with you, but helping your fellow man will help more than you know. Look at the nuns who have given their whole life helping the poor and you are crying about a few crosses and rings. This is why the church is in the state it is in.

I'm glad to see the thinking citizens of MN are back to the comment section.
P.S. Fan: It was public knowledge that he would be in Rome then.
