Nice work St. Paul Police. As usual, way to copy the Minneapolis Police Department.

Talk to the street cop who is driving a four year old car, used 20 out of 24 hours a day, over 100,000 miles, heavy city traffic use, sent to the shop for repair several times a year.......we don't care what color the cars are, just as long as we get cars! National studies show the fleet of cars needs to be rotated every two or three years for safety, resale value, etc. After two years, the cars cost more to repair than by new. Unfortunately St. Paul Police has an accountant who knows better than the national studies, repair shop personnel and the street officers. Right now, we don't have enough for proper patrol of neighborhoods.

Yeah, "More Guns, Less Crime" (Dr. John Lott). We don't need more cops if we can protect ourselves. A few thousand cops can't possibly "protect" a few hundred thousand people.

Cops have a tough enough job now. They don't need a bunch of cowboys running around the streets with guns to complicate their job.

Now if we could just get them to do some "old fashion" police work.

An article on new police car design, not one clear picture of the new police car design. Just an out of focus backdrop photo.

The old cars are really falling apart and needed to be replaced. This new/old look is great! SPPD made a very good choice by picking this color scheme for their squar cars. Thanks goes out to Chief Harrington and Rob Weier for their efforts to bring back the old colors!

They can't do that anymore because the "community" will riot and loot their own neighborhoods while crying "racism" and "profiling", and they'll blame everything from the condition of their lawn to the pimple on their nose on the police.

Uncle Dave you are right on the money.

Uncle Dave wishes the cops could take out the fire hoses again...that'll teach the, as he calls it, "community."

$24K for a new police cruiser. That seems cheap. I too think it is funny that the article is about the new cars and the is not a picture of one. Maybe they are waiting for a "reveal"? Also, what model might they be? I better check the strib and find out.

Well if the quit letting the coppers take them to work off duty part time jobs it will cut down some where and tear for when they are used for taxpayer duties. Never understood the logic of letting Police use City equipment to work security off duty - they make an average of $45.00 an hour cash-let them drive thier own vehicles. Now back to the cool new cop cars.

Chief Harrington must of thought this up while playing professor. Ask the cops, he is never there any more. He is clueless as to what is happening at his department. He spends more time double dipping as a college professor than as Chief. This should be investigated.

Barney wrote: Now if we could just get them to do some "old fashion" police work. Good luck with that. Saint Paul cops have a hard enough time getting their butts out of their cars to actually check on complaints from citizens. That loud party across the street? You're lucky if the cops slow down to speed limit with their windows rolled down as they drive by. Better not make the new cars too nice or the cops will never want to get out and actually have to, ya know, TALK to the public.
