The east side: It "ain't what it used to be". When I was growing up, it was the safest part of town to live in. Now I shudder to think.... They should just call it "little Detroit".

How dare this monster decide to enter someone else's world of comfort and try to tear it apart. He needs the book thrown at him and the key thrown away.

When was that--1957? Times have changed everywhere. Giving a neighborhood a scary name doesn't do justice to the work many neighbors are actively engaged in to create a better community for those who wish to live respectfully amongst each other. Please don't sum up an entire neighborhood based on the actions of one out-of-towner. The shooter, you may recall, is from Maplewood.

Advice to community-minded folks: Join a block club. Say hello to a new face. Sweep up broken glass. You can make your environment whatever you want it to be.

Peace.

St Paul, nothing but a ghetto anymore, lived on the east side for over 20 years now and wish I would have sold my house a few years ago as now its worth nothing, the neighborhood is full of crime, people who dont give a crap about their homes, neighbors, St Paul, its so sad to see but with property taxes doubled in the past 4 years, and just more undesireables moving in, crime etc no one who wants to own will buy in St Paul anymore, its too late, St Paul will never recover, with outrageous code requirements who would want buy one of the many vacant homes in St Paul, only investors who dont care who moves in, its sad to see, I hope these folks recover as they did not deserve what happened to them, just so sad to see the east side lost with no one, police etc who care to turn it around

Get used to it honey. Until you start holding the people who do the bad deeds responsible rather than the house they live in, it's going to get a lot worse. Your probably one of the idiots who think the landlord is responsible for everything wrong in your neighborhood.

To "watching and learning":

As a matter of fact, I moved to the eastside in 1957 (good guess). I left in 1989 for a few years and when I returned, I couldn't believe my eyes as I drove up and down the streets of the east side. From then on, I always referred to my place of residence as being the "UPPER eastside" because I didn't want to be associated with the crap. When it started "movin' on up", I "moved on out" again. Hallelujah!

Thomas, what are you talking about? A mother and her 19 year old son were shot. What does that have to do with the landlord?

Unless of course you think I should cut the shooter some slack. (No chance of that.)

"RESPONSIBILITY"???
What a concept!

Gosh, that would be called "Judgmental", and therefore, not acceptable in MN.
