Nothing new - racist, ignorant comments on the Topix board.

Educate yourself with the Crime Maps the city provides before you spew false information.

My friend is a cop on the West Side. He also grew up on the West Side.

Although the homicide rate for Saint Paul is low as a rule, the majority of the homicides are gang and/or drug related just as this one was.

The West Side like a lot of areas in Saint Paul is not what it used to be. You don't need Crime Maps (which show what the police want them to show anyway) or anything else to see that the city has real crime problems.

And anyone can call it racist to make themselves feel better, but take a look at the race of the murder victims and thier killers for the last year. It is almost 100 percent the same.

The Fridley killing had nothing to do with drugs or gangs. There, an ignorant youth had a gun that he didn't know was loaded. He was showing it to his friend. Stupid, but not deliberate.

I could be wrong but I think Carrie's point is that things like this can happen anywhere. I also don't recall the article saying that this was gang related. Maybe I missed it, but I don't think so. This may also have been just a tragic accident, there were not many details.

Denial about what? Have you been to Fridley lately? Its pretty ganged up. No matter since the killing that took place there was an accidental shooting between two friends who had a gun. The real question in the Fridley case is why there was a gun involved to begin with.

And why can't people come here and comment about crime in Saint Paul? Is there only certain things that are able to be commented on?

People might take your comments more to heart if you spelled correctly and were able to construct a sentence.

Just food for thought.

The PP will be careful about saying it is gang realted this early in the investigation, but the article does say that the gang unit was on the scene with the homicide unit. I can tell you from working on death scenes, the gang unit is not there unless gangs had something to do with it.

A tragic accident it was not.

Do any of you knobs actually live on the West Side? I do...and because some kid got shot doesn't denigrate an entire neighborhood.

But cling to your cul de sacs and your racist misconceptions. It's very becoming!
