This article barely scratches the surface of what is really going on with Peter Erlinder.
- Mr Erlinder is an avid and unapologetic genocide denier, a simple google search will reveal how active he has been in this work - he has broken Rwandan laws and entered Rwanda on a tourist visa knowing he would be arrested for breaking the law. If he had denied the holocaust and then walked into Germany to promote this negationism, he would have been arrested.
- His intention could not have been to defend Victoire Ingabire because he did not bother to register at the Bar Association in order to be permitted to practice law in Rwanda - he fully intended to stir up trouble and he has suceeded.
- Victoire Ingabire is not only charged with genocide denial, she is also charged with associating AND funding the FDLR (Rwandan genocidal militias that fled to DRC and have been killing and raping women and girls for the last 16 years)

From a journalists perspective, he is simply a liberal who is furthering his career by getting arrested in a foreign country so the msm can make it an international story. They will never take the time to dig beneath the surface of this.

They will simply take what erlinder's handlers tell them and put it into their own words.

Wouldn't it be great if all these "activists" left the U.S. to "save the world", and never returned? What a great day in the history of the U.S. that would be. As Martin Luther King said "I have a dream"!

Erlinger is NOT denying the genocide committed in Rwanda. He is there to defend someone who is being wrongly accused by the government. The person accused of "denying the genocide" has gone on record condemning the killings. This is a typical tactic used by the current regime running Rwanda. Lock up all those who disagree with them and their lawyers.

You folks need to get your facts straight!

Thought control is a crime! And the Rwandan government wants to govern how people think, any one who does not think according to the NEW LAWS of Rwanda set up recently after the 1990 tragedy is a GENOCIDE negetionist, but lots of facts during this tragedy were hidden, the crimes commited by RPF ignored. The whole Rwandan systemof governance is one sided and has not managed to reconcile The Rwandan people at all.Why is it that in our country for there to be any change blood must be shed? What is wrong with a government that accomodates everyones views.Laws could be based on international human rights other than Genocide commited against the TUSTI people.Yes they died but an equal number or more HUTUS died as well plus an unknown number of the TWA people, for there to be real meaningful progress in Rwanda The laws and constitution should should be based on something that looks beyond the events of 1994.That the current government failed to achieve.80% of Rwandan intellectuals leave outside the country and that is a major brain drain. It is easy to compare the current Rwanda with where it was rather than where it would be if things were done fairly and correctly.

Of course its not your job to teach me. Its your job to provide spin for this professor. You might not be able to distinguish between advocacy and fact, but I can.

I am sure there are plenty of psychopathic killers and genocide perpetrators on all sides of the political scene in rwanda.

The scary thing is that all of these negative comments avoid the plain fact that this US citizen had been jailed on false charges (he has never "denied the genocide"), has been interrogated and denied access to his legal counsel, apparently faces 20 years in a Rwandan prison (fun!), has been falsely accused of attempting suicide, and is lying in a dirt-floor jail cell with no mosquito netting or heart and blood pressure medication, and not a single US representative (or Minnesota, for that matter) from the president down to the US Rwandan ambassador has made the slightest noise in protest, or the slightest show of support for this man. Not a one. Message: speak out against injustice and defend unpopular people, and America will wash its hands of you.

We all need a huge wake up call as to what our country is rapidly becoming. Only a few years ago Professor Erlinder would have been lauded for his courage and guts in challenging injustice and defending the abandoned,(and he would have been freed inside of 24 hours). This, of course, is in the best tradition of the American justice system. Today, Erlinder is abandoned, by his government (which, ironically, he undoubtedly voted for) and by his fellow "Americans," like many who have commented on this article. Shame on the government, and shame on you. This man needs the outraged support of his fellow citizens, not the cheesy outrage and cynicism offered in "comment" to his plight. What a bunch of disappointing cowards.

If the majority of the comments here indicate a national trend, may God help us, and may He help Professor Erlinder. It is evident that our government (and many others) will not.

It appears to me Mr. Erlinder was asking for trouble, and he got it. Shocker.

Let this be a lesson to the "save the world" types. Do it on your own dime, your own time and do it quietly. If you run into trouble during this "soul-searching" event, you're on your own pal.

I don't drag my ass out of bed everyday to work and pay taxes so these Liberal nut-jobs can fly around the world on their personal adventures, and expect someone (the American Taxpayer) to bail there ass out when the inevitable happens. You want to prove a point across the pond..... move there, become a citizen and do "God's work" at your leisure, and leave the rest of us out of the equation!

Here's how it works for the clueless out there who have their sights set on "saving the world" (essentially this is a common sense list of the obvious - I'll make it brief and hope it's enough).

1. Travel to a 3rd World lawless Nation (Rwanda) full of machete wielding, spear wielding, uneducated tribesmen to "save the world" - Result: Get thrown in a Rwandan jail

2. Have a car with gas in it, put it in gear, press on the foot pedal - Result: The car will begin moving.

3. Cross the Iranian border while camping and attempting to "save the world" (I guess Yellowstone National was full)- Result: Get thrown in an Iranian jail

4. Stand up from a resting position, put one foot in front of the other, then repeat - Result: You are now walking.

Got it yet?

It is sad to see some of you defending this lawyer, look at his record, this is a guy whose carrier has been based on defending rapists, child molesters, murderers and now he upgraded to genociders. For him all these peoples his has been defending are good people and the victims are the guilty one. I donít care about what you guys think about the Rwandan government and justice system but I do not see an African after saying and doing what this lawyer have been saying and doing, travel to any European country or north America where he or she was trashing and denying their history.

I applaud this government in enforcing their laws regardless of who these people are. Some African countries are still so primitive that they canít dare to jail a white person, especially an American. They go around sleeping with minors, abusing locals and they go unpunished. Those days are gone in Rwanda.

African live like rat in the west, canít dare to do what these white guys are coming and doing in Africa. It there is there a law that was broken by this lawyer, let see how this will evolve.

Mr Erlinder is a frustrated outlaw, an anarchist and a scumbag who thought he could come piss on Africans; now it is he who pissing on himself. I am sure he has learned a lesson that families of the victims of those rapist and murderers he defended should have given him a long time ago.

He is a true American and actually represents what is still good about America, freedom equality and democracy. It seems most of you Americans have abandoned this because of fears of paying more taxes I see a future where Americans will be afraid to get out of their houses in case they pay more taxes. If this is how Capitalism climaxes then everybody should be looking towards China at least they have more humanity. The thing is Americans everywhere in the world want to be involved with out being involved any man who takes the principles of humanity and democracy further like Mr Erlinder did must do it in his own time and dime? He is cleaning the mess left by USA's two previous Presidents who supported and installed a Criminal into power!?Imagine all they have done to him in just one week! A law man with international recognition and think of the natives who have to live there.Thousands attributed to the GENOCIDE dissappeared and were killed by that very same government! And he is only still alive because the whole world knows he is there, otherwise the excuse would be that he died by the hands of FDRL or HUTU insurgents or something silly like that.At least get him back home and ask him to recount what he saw and how he was treated.Stop treating Hutus like criminals and at least allow them to fight back for their country.Fairly through elections or with blood through war.Rwanda can not will not be ruled by criminals forever.
