This poll does not make any sense.
"How to run SSPX out of town?"
should say "What are you biggest concerns with the SSPX in St. Marys?"
And the options should be those listed. Apparently 100%(the 2 people!) are tired of paying their way.
Other concers should be. 1) Their lack of concern for the St. Marys Community. 2) Their confusion with anti-government beliefs and religion. 3) Why they want to control the entire St. Marys Community. 4) Why do they call themselves Catholic, but forget about Christianity and Charity, treat others the way you want to be treated, turn the other cheek, etc. etc. etc.

Just ran across your comment...do not know why I
did not read this before?? Your comments are
very much on the mark; now IF only someone would
start doing something about it?? I thoroughly
agree with your last statement "God Help St.Marys"
as it is sorely needed. Am glad to hear of the
grocery store FINALLY coming to pass!!

There would not be a town left if the traditional Catholics were run out of St. Marys. Without the school, the campus would have become a drug addiction rehabilitation center. There would be no restaurants, no real jobs, definitely no public high school, and really no economy.St. Marys would be another Emmett or Delia...except for the rehabilitation center.

Forgive my ignorance, but why do so many people in Saint Marys dislike the sspx people so much? I don't live in Saint Marys, but my parents do. I don't spend a lot of time there, but when I have been there to summer festivities in the park and what not, I've met and talked to "those people" they seem very genuine and nice. So the women wear skirts and have more kids than most. So what? Can someone give me actual reasons why they should be "run out of town"? I've never really understood the real reason for the division in that town. Maybe someone can explain it to me.

In an attempt to answer your question; could it be that people are sick to death of paying taxes
on these larger than oughta be families? The long
dresses on the little girls trying to ride bikes, etc., is dangerous (tripping, getting caught in
the chain). I have visited the town, also, and
have found these people to be rude, nasty, laugh
and make fun of women in shorts/jeans/slacks, etc.
Also, since SSPX owns the eating places, for the
most part, they will not even SERVE someone who
is not dressed in the 1800-style of clothing.
Darned right, I felt singled out and was in total
disagreement with all who I had the misfortune to
come in contact with. Full well knowing that
there are NO jobs which pay enough for a man with
a wife who does not work, and continues to breed,
does not sit well with me or my friends. I agree
with the complete list of running them out. St.
Marys was always a decent, clean little town, and
they do not deserve these moochers...neither does
the county or the State. Thank you.

Ok. So now I just feel like playing the devil's advocate, so be nice and play along.

I've eaten at the resturant on the east side of town, I think the name is Froggy's. My mom was wearing pants and I was in jeans. Neither of us were made to feel unwelcomed, nor were we refused service. If the people that own this resturant depend on it for their livelihood, why in the world would they turn away paying customers just because they didn't fit the so called 1800 style dress code?

Secondly, another question. You state that you are tired of paying their way. Do you mean that "they" are all on welfare? If this is what you mean, do you actually KNOW they are all on welfare, or are you assuming they are because they all have more than the normal 1.3 kids, or whatever the average number is?
Thank you.

In order to make myself more clear; perhaps I am
just too analytical to believe that a man who does
not work, and wife who spends her day at home with
17 or 18 kids, cannot possibly afford to feed, or
clothe this many kids without Government help. Am
I correct, or is there another answer to this??
My wife was dressed in shorts, and a tank top, my
son and I were in shorts, and since we had out-of-
state license plates on our motorhome, they abso-
lutely would not come and wait on us; plus they
made rude and audible comments. After about 15
minutes, we left. I think it was the restaurant
you mentioned? Down to the east on US24. We were
passing through on the way to a family funeral in
Manhattan, and we were dressed in what we consider
'casual, traveling, clothes'. It was totally rude
and after speaking with friends who live and have
lived in St Marys, we find it is the 'norm'. I
hope never to set foot in that town again. In
these desperate, economical times, why do these
people have to depend on Government to provide a
life for all these kids? Also, no mother or father could possibly have the time, even if they
are not working, to spend quality time with each
child. I feel excessively sad and sorry for the
children, who probably spend their days raising
their younger siblings.

I believe we are talking about the same restaurant. I'm sorry for you and your family that you were treated so rudely. I'd have made a stink if I had been you.

Anyway, thanks for answering my questions. I started up this conversation with you to try to understand the opposition a little better, which I guess I kind of do.

It sounds to me like you just hate these people because they are different. They take an interest in politics, start businesses, raise good, interested citizens?Your biggest complaints are long skirts and large families? My husband comes from a large family as did my grandparents. NEVER any welfare. They had too much honest pride. As my two aunts who are social workers always tell me, the number one welfare drainers are single mothers with one or two children. Just look at the online statistics if you care to They rarely have to visit large families.
If you have these attitudes, no wonder the restaurant servers (and whoever else) were rude! Don't dish it out if you can't take it! I have lived all over the Midwest. When I first came to Kansas, I saw a license plate that said, "Kansas, as bigoted as you think!" I laughed then, but after hearing about the two young men harassing the black youth in Waterville and now this, I begin to wonder!

I would like to clarify just what happened at
that restaurant. We walked in as a family; I
went to the restroom. There were a bunch of
people sitting over by the window. My wife and
son seated themselves, and did not say a word. I
came out of the restroom and joined them. The
people by the window were pointing and making
comments on how my wife (in shorts) was dressed
and giving her nasty looks. It was very disturbing to all of us. The girl who was evidently the waitress; stood over by the cash register and would not come near us, altho she
had the menu in her hand. None of us said one
word; we just waited patiently. Finally, we just
got up and walked out. No words were exchanged
with any of them, as we were not raised to lower
ourselves to their level. I mentioned this place
to my cousin in Manhattan, and he said that they
had stopped there once and with hamburger and
French fries, there was also a HUGE cockroach on
the plate. Never again. I work in a profession
where I talk on a daily basis to every color and
creed of people. I consider this SSPX bunch the
rudest I have ever encountered. Thank you.

You keep harping on your one time incident at a restaurant. I'd expect to hear of gang violence, breaking laws or vandalism with all the hatred your tone resonates. Just because you talk to people of every creed and color doesn't make you a saint. A truly good person loves their NEIGHBOR and goes out of the way to make things work out...not stir up hatred over petty incidents. I have friends in Emmett, Kansas, who are friends with these people. These friends wear tank tops, have tatoos and certainly don't look like they stepped out of the 1800's! Yet, somehow, they've managed to all get along. I think a person's attitude and openess makes all the difference in the world. That's what America is all about.Look at people for who they are and don'y categorize them for belonging to this or that group. Don't stigmatize them for going to a church where one person made a slip up. Imagine if we judged all Germans on Adolf Hitler!
When I hear that these SSPX people are doing something worse than having many children, dressing in long skirts, or even getting food stamps, then I might question their intentions. For now, most of the hate I hear about comes from people who can't bear to see what they consider "their" town (which I hear would barely exist if it weren't for these people) changing at all. Good Lord, I even heard that in a recent election, people refused to vote for the candidate who promised to lower taxes compared to an openly dishonest candidate just because he went to "that" church! If that's true....well it's no different than rejecting a candidate on basis of race or color!

WOW! Your knowledge as well as your concepts are
truly amazing! You are confusing politics with
religion at this point. St Marys, KS, was a cute
little town with Roman Catholics, as well as the
Protestants. They all got along just fine. Then,
seemingly under cover of night, this SSPX bunch
arrived on scene, and the whole town went to
'crap', None of the businesses that had been in
the town, were good enough for them. They looked
down their noses and made crude and rude remarks
to people, farmers, business people, from the
moment they arrived. They opened little junk
shops to sell everything that might be of use to
their own kind; such as baby clothes, etc. They
also ran their people for different political
office, so that the people who had lived there in
Pott. County would have no say. Now, they have
moved on to Belvue, KS, a smaller town to the west, and are doing the same thing. What the hay
is next? The entire State of Kansas? They are no better than the Polygamists who have been in
the news, except they have the practice (as far
as I know) of one man, one wife.

This is my last post on this subject. It is obvious that your deeply emotional (most certainly not factual or logical) dislike of your new neighbors is so deep rooted that you will never consider even trying to live with them in a neighborly fashion. Though you may stay awake late at night dreaming of driving them out, it sounds like it ain't gonna happen. The next best thing is to accept the inevitable and make the best of the situation with some human kindness. That turn the other cheek stuff actually does work sometimes. Even if all your rant about their rudeness if even half true, I'll bet you they'd be a lot nicer if they felt like they didn't have to constantly defend themselves against the local yokels and good ole boys.People who lived in Pott County would have no say? Aren't they people (though you seem to contest the fact) and don't they live in Pott county? Why must your ideas prevail and why are they the only correct ideas? How come only your approved candidates should run?
As for little junk shops...the shops I've visited in St Marys that are (I'm told) run by them have been well run and a great improvement to the town. Florence Adams, that computer shop, the convenient store, and others were all beautiful improvements to the town. I also drive by a lovely group of new homes just north of town that I'm told are mostly owned by them.
If their moving to Belvue will bring some of those types of homes and businesses to them...bring it on! Thank goodness I have heard positive reports from native St. Marys folks who seem to get along just fine with the new additions to the town. Kudos to them and God bless 'em!
whatever

Since you think you can rule on everything in life

Perhaps you're missing the point.

I suspect he is directing this information to you because you so frequently post things, words, that are actually against the Topix TOS.

Maybe you should consider that.

This is for Trisha: Just WHAT have I said that
us against Topix TOS? I merely try to get people
to realize that there is something definitely
w-r-o-n-g with what is going on in St. Marys, KS.
If you think my views are wrong, just look at the
national news on TV, concerning the woman in CA
that had all those babies, which will amount to
more money out of people's pockets. Same can be
said about Pott. County supporting the SSPX who
think they can breed for money. Thank you.

Hey...I don't know how you KNOW we are all on welfare. I personally don't know anyone. But you know, we all pay for our own children's education as well as taxes for a school we do not use...the public school. Hence we pay for our children's education as well as the people's who don't go to our parish. No one complains about those hundreds of dollars. Also, if there were even ten extra families on welfare, how much would it make your taxes go up? Certainly not the $50 extra I pay a year. Yes, it's our choice to pay the extra tuition as well as our taxes. The Catholic Church teaches it is wrong to take government aid when you can help it. That is why many families work two jobs to pay their tuition, taxes, and stay off welfare. Those parents are real heroes.

I hear of the use of welfare/foodstamps, etc.,
from all my old friends who have lived in St.
Marys, for years and years. None of us can com-
prehend the lack of places to employ these people,
and the number of children. Think about it, and
you will have to understand where we all are coming from. There are no employers in or even
close to that town, that would pay a wage that is
substantial enough to pay for a huge family,
like you see living there. Most of us have to
scratch and dig to provide enough money to raise
two or three children...they cost a lot. Further-
more, as to you paying taxes for the public school
as well as your own schools, why doesn't some of
your people see if they can fight this? Older
people who have raised their kids, and do not feel
that they should continue to pay taxes when they
have no children attending school,(this is in
other parts of the U.S.) have succeeded in getting
out of paying for the school taxes, so it is not
impossible.
