I am not only a conservative, but also a Constitution supporter. I am also a Vet. But while I believe in free speech and the right to worship, I draw the line when those two rights infringe on the rights of a grief stricken family to bury their dead in peace. Westboro Baptist goes too far when it dishonors young Americans killed serving their country by demonstrating their hatred at these fallen warriors' funerals.
All grieving families should be left in peace when their loved ones die--even the families of criminals. But while impinging on such funerals is merely disrespectful to the mourners, which is bad enough, doing so at the funerals of military casualties shows disrespect for the nation as a whole. WBC deserves all of the censure that comes its way.

Well said and I totally agree. If there's any good in any of this it's that people are standing up to these clowns more now than they were in 2006. In the last year or two people are showing up by the hundreds to support the fallen soldiers and their families. We did have the wonderful men and women from the Patriot Guard by our side. What a great group of Americans they are.
Thank you for your service.
You are welcome, and it was a privilege to serve our country.

You are absolutely right. Any funeral is a private family matter and should never be confronted with the circus atmosphere the WBC generates to publicize it's views.

You and I know, as all Vets know, that a military funeral is the one moment in life for those who survive and the one moment in the death of the one who sacrificed, where honor and respect are the only rewards left to be bestowed. That moment should never be diminished in any way.
