The Labor Department said today the U.S. added 146,000 jobs last month. The unemployment rate fell to 7.7 percent from 7.9 percent, the lowest since December 2008.

Good job Mr. President, good job!

Dec 7, 2012

PS. Hum... anyone hear that sound? Believe that was Redneck, Bubba, Moreno and other Republicans sighing in disappointment that unemployment went down yet again. Something like 30+ months in a row we've created jobs rather than lose them like with Bush. Yep, what's good for the country makes Republican's heads explode. Good times indeed!

First, let me say I'm a Independent and thrilled with any reduction in unemployment in this country. However, the gov't compiles those figures from citizens currently on the unemployment rolls. They have no way of accounting for citizens who have exhausted their unemployment benefits....and remain unemployed or underemployed or, sadly, have simply given up looking for employment because positions which once had 20-30 applicants how have over 100 applying.

Hayneedle: Thanks for your rational comments. As you say, the government has no viable way to account for every single worker so clearly these numbers could be off a little or a lot. That said, the amount of data the government obtains monthly to produce this report is huge. And to the best of their abilities each month using the same economic and mathematical formulas, they tell us where we stand and which way we're headed. Lastly, as I'm sure you're aware, the report is not "massaged" to obtain any particular number despite what Fox News may say.

Semi-related, yesterday Florida just reported their lowest unemployment rate since 2008 so clearly the country is headed in the right direction job wise. Georgia has been reporting better numbers for over a year now as well. So it's fairly easy and accurate to say President Obama's team is doing something right and the public obviously agrees.

Give me 6 trillion dollars to spend and control of the country and I will guarantee you employment will be less than 2%.

If FOX alleges "massaged", that's like a guarantee it's not. I put little faith in major media's reporting of events. They editorialize everything.

What Obamanation and his "team" are ding is not counting the tens of thousands who have quit looking and counting the tens of thousands of temporary seasonal retail workers long with the tens of thousands of new federal workers being hired to swell the union ranks of sure-thing Dem voters.

Meanwhile, the advertizing campaign to buy millions more votes by encouraging increased food stamp utilization continues apace.

Actually, your assertion shows how little you know, but we on Topix's already knew that.

President Obama is tied for 14th best president of all time. The only two semi-modern day Republican presidents higher are T. Roosevelt and Eisenhower.

And trust me, after winning with a "mandate" as Bush says, President Obama's going higher on the list after his next four years ends.

And "your welcome" from the millions of us that voted Democrat.

Church Lady you might be right. The bible says in the latter days that there would be wars and the rumor of wars and that God would unleash pestilence upon the land. I think Obama is our pestilence!

A darn big chuck of that 6 trillion went to clean up the messes left after Republicans Bush & Cheney got done fuc*ing America and the world for 8 nightmare years.

America is out of recession and growing; countries who did not spend there way out are still in or back in recession.

We'll climb out of this Republican caused fiscal mess in 20 years time thanks to Democratic leadership. And it'd be nice if Republicans would stop being obstructionist and get on with actual work to help the county.

Oh yea, I agree, good job Prez!

Oh, you mean the bailout of the auto workers? Or education money to the states with lots of union teachers. No, wait, it was infrastructure construction money to closed shop states. There is close to 200 billion of the 896 bullion in the first stimulus bill that is not accounted for. It is believed that the SEIU union and ACORN got bunches for voter education and turn out.

Here is some more education material for you socialist pukes. Don't know who put it together but its the truth:

"The day the democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009, it was actually January 3rd 2007 the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress.

The Democrat Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault", think about this:

January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress. At the time:

The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77

The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%

The Unemployment rate was 4.6%

George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB GROWTH

Remember the day...

January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?

BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!

Unemployment... to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!

Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy.

And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac? OBAMA

And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?

OBAMA and the Democrat Congress

So when someone tries to blame Bush...

REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!"

Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.

In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.

And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009.

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th."

Most Americans including the "Rich" wouldn't mind paying a little more tax if it was F***ing GUARENTEAD that every penny would go to pay down the deficit.

The one thing must rich people can't stand is seeing good money being pissed away.

That is of course excluding the Osprey Cove politicians.

Sorry Bubba, but the jokes on you. The 14th ranking for President Obama is correct. The scholarly ranking have been done periodically since the 1940's. He should have provided a link, here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_ranki...
