I'm glad that city employees are getting a pay raise of 3%. Its about time.
My problem with a 3% across the board seems unfair.
all deserves a increase.
But when we have city managers, clerks and others making more than our policemen/women and firefighters seems a little not right
We are going to give a man a 3000.00 a year raise compared to 1200.00 to a people that would put their life on the line for a total stranger.
Yes I understand its like this everywhere but just because its done like that everywhere does not mean we have to fallow the wrong path.
Myself would rather have a cop come to me when i need it or a firefighter if i needed it.
just seems not right to expand the pay gap between the higher ups.
Dont know how but ya may can see how we could show the police/fire depts that we are trying

The supply of people qualified to be cops is far higher than the supply of qualified and appropriately educated and experienced city managers, city clerks, etc.

It is simple supply and demand and there is nothing unfair about it.

Unfair would be to do what you have in mind.

By the way, if all paychecks go up 3%, there is no increase at all in the difference of the ratios of the paychecks to one another. It will be "pay disparity" neutral

Jay this is one of the times we disagree.Anyone above the 12 grade can run this city. We give him a police chief, fire chief, building planner, public works supervisor, finance director,ect...
then we give him a city attorney to use at free will.

I dont know how to do it this is all Im saying.
95%of the time they give raises the insuranse will go up that just about makes bring home pay the same Yet the person that gets that 1200.00 pays lets say for example pays 1000. more in insurance making pay increase about 16.00 more per month but the guy getting the 3000.00 will bring home about 160 more per month.
I'm willing to bet any officier we have can do the managers job with all that support staff.
Like I said I know I dont know how but with all his education above mine and all SMPD/SMFD lack of brains could find away.

Now see everyone Jay and myself disagreed and not a name calling between neither side.

Tommy, I appreciate the point you are making.
However, whereas the cost to provide a given medical service is totally independent of the income level of the patient, the income of the patient is totally dependent upon the value of the patient's skillset and its supply in the labor market.

Those are inalterable facts of a free-market, capitalist economy in a representative democracy.
